Default Exhaust guru's inside please...

Ok, there's one thing that's been bothering me for a while now. I want to make my car's exhaust have the deepest note possible. Here are several things I've been able to come up with in my search:
-Long tubes sound deeper than manifolds or shorties
-Mid-mufflers seem to sound better than mufflers that are only a few inches from the tips...I assume this is because the longer a pipe is after the exhaust, the less chance of rasp. (I know this because of the Mustang's BS design and my crappy sounding exhaust after I removed the cats)
-H-pipes sound deeper than x-pipes...but I don't know why.

I'm looking for info on what types of mufflers or resonators to look for. Also how does the placement of said mufflers/resonators effect the sound? (i.e. Would the sound be deeper if the h-pipe is before or after the muffler/resonator?)

Here are some examples:
(Mustang)
This (my favorite so far):

sounds much better than this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=px8RW...eature=related
but they are the same mufflers, just mounted in different sections of the exhaust system.
(G8)
The first part of the video is with stock resonators and mufflers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2HZgTvEKQg&NR=1
the second part is with the mufflers deleted and just the resonators..and it sounds much better!
Obviously different engines are going to produce different exhaust notes, but I'm looking for basic info as to what effects the exhaust tone/note.

I will be putting a cam in before February, but that's the only mod I see in the near future.
What I guess I'm asking for is someone who knows the dynamics of the exhaust system to tell me 'why' things like the h-pipe making the sound deeper.
My exhaust will have to be custom from the headers back, so would mounting mufflers next to the transmission and having the exhaust merge into an h-pipe AFTER the mufflers have an effect on exhaust tone/performance? What effect would TWO h-pipes have? Stuff like that...

A larger diameter pipe(s) will deepen the note more than any muffler alone.

Chambered mufflers give a deep tone as well....

If I could do it again, I would run a 3"ORY->4" I pipe back to a 4" in/out flowmaster 10.

That would be the deepest for an I pipe.

Probably 3" back, H pipe and some flow 10s would be super deep as well.

Haha. You seriously have one of the best sounding cars on the board man, that thing is just a monster. I know the OP wants deep, which your setup is a maybe a little radical for him.

In all honesty, the deeper the tone, usually the quieter the exhaust. I had a Hooker MaxFlow muffler, that was very deep and smooth, but was about as loud as stock mani's/cats at idle.

I dont think there is room for 4" pipe on my Mustang, but would 3 1/2" pipe from the axle-back make a difference on a mid-muffler setup work? Or would the majority of t he exhaust have to be the larger diameter pipe?

We don't have any sponsors that specialize in exhaust that could chime in?
