Default pacesetter y-pipe opinions

Whats you guy opinions on a pacesetter y-pipe?? Will the merge on pacesetter y-pipe be a big difference over the merge on the tsp y-pipe? I can get a pacesetter y for 75 shipped or buy the tsp y for 150 shipped.....I will be using ebay headers that i bought from joshuacole67. Car is an 01 trans am....im just worried bout alot of rasp.....i did a search but only threads about tsp came up....so who still uses the pace y?? Let me know what you think about it

I have a pacesetter y pipe and a dynomax 3" bullet muffler for sale as well, will do $120 shipped for both and both are brand spankin new in box, lot of people use it and it works just fine. A muffler and a cat back will definitely cut down on the rasp, if you want it to sound loud, just get a turn down and you are set.

The pacesetter merge is a horrible restriction. I ran one for awhile. It's raspy and inefficient. It's more of a T than a Y.

How well do the two interchange? I don't have access to welding equipment, but I have Pacesetter LTs and I'm sick of the rasp. I'd like to replace with a TSP y if it will swap out with minimal bending/cutting...

Edit: Disregard, found this: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...otsa-pics.html

My bro had a Pacesetter Y on his SS mated to a set of JET HOT LTs. The rasp was terrible, so he swapped it for a Texas Speed ORY. He definitely lost some ground clearance, but other than that the TSP ORY made a world of difference and was no trouble at all getting matched to the JET HOTs.

The TSP flows great because it has a fantastic merge but the Pacesetter fits so much better to the floor pan. Some guys got the tsp pretty tight to the car, but it's so big that it still sacrifices ground clearance.

+1 for the tsp y and pacesetter longtubes. my y came in 5 or 6 pieces that i had to clamp together, but im sure you can manipulate them more to get more ground clearance

What ebay headers are you using? TurboXS or whatever they are? First of all, good luck with that. I know a couple people that tried them and the flanges ended up being bent and causing leaks and other problems.

The cheapest headers I would use would be Pacesetters. I've had a lot of good luck with them.

Do not use the Pacesetter Y-pipe. It is garbage. The "merge" is a tiny hole cut inside one of the pipes. Probably only a 2" hole and makes the pipe raspy. I've installed several Pacesetter y-pipes and they are all like this. I have no experience with the TSP pipe.

My recommendation would be get a Flowmaster 3" in - 3.5" out merge and get a muffler shop to build you a y-pipe. It will flow better and actually sound better. I had a Pacesetter Y-pipe on my car, and with a little hacking and welding, I added the Flowmaster merge.

Either way, stay away from the Pacesetter Y.

is the merge on the pacesetter what causes the rasp? if so how much do you guys think it would be on average to have it cut and have a custom merge put on? I just like how the pacesetter Y is built for clearance.

i have pacesseter y and headers, the fit is perfect, but if you look inside the y the merge is restrictive, i cut mine open and ported it out to help, they could have done a better job, no rasp to talk about.
