Default ported 241 heads?

I'm at the moment. Tearing my heads off to inspect the valves after a spring blew apart. What I'm wondering. Is it worth porting out my 241 heads on my Firehawk? I'm on a budget of course.

Pending if I decide its better to buy 243 heads. If I don't have to replace them. Then I want to get a new converter and cam. I'm also putting my full true dual set up with long tubes.

Depends on who does the porting.. If you are on a budget, probably not.
If you have someone like AI do the work, yes it is very worth it.

Thanks. Haven't heard of AI? There's a local head shop here in Jax. Guess I could see if they port heads besides doing just rebuilds.

Patriot will NOT do 241 heads. Only AI and local guys will do 241s.. And only AI has proven results. Local guys are hit-or-miss, and porting LS heads requires a little more finesse and strategy than porting say a BBC head.

Also, AI = Advanced Induction

What cam are you running? I only ask, because depending on the cam, 243 heads may put the valves too close to the pistons.

Which part? Overall? Yes.

I have done extensive research into various ways of making power while still retaining a stock or near-stock visual appearance, and passing the CA sniffer.

That includes calling/e-mailing Patriot and asking if they can port 241s. They do not do 241 casting heads. They do other stock castings, but not 241s (although, I'm pretty sure they used to).

WCCH used to do CNC 241s back in the day but there are very little out there, and they have no dyno results from them. When I contacted WCCH, he said the guy who did the programming for 241s and a couple other stock head castings left the company and took the CNC programs with him, so WCCH no longer does 241s either.

I only had three options for porting my 241s:
- DIY
- Have a local head porting guy do it in an undefined amount of time for $700
- Send it to Advanced Induction

I chose none of the above and just threw on a set of milled 241s due to time/money constraints.

My advice? Assuming PRC 5.3 Stg. 2.5 heads will work for you, find a set of used ones here in the classifieds. Unless you want the casting numbers to match - and if that's the case, go with the AI heads. AI heads are also nice if you pull them frequently, because they bevel the edges so you don't cut yourself all the time.

Don't really know, and we probably will never know. CBM is more than one person. The two shops are both in SoCal though, and I don't know of other places around here that CNC 241s. Doesn't really matter. What's important is that there's an alternative to AI for CNC P&P 241s..

I just want flow numbers and dyno numbers (if you have any).

i believe jeremy formato at fastproms down in tampa still ports the 241's. i have ran modified 241's and 243's and my OPINION is that once the heads are properly tweaked, there is not enough difference to spend the extra money on the 243's. i am sure others dont see it that way, but thats just me guys.

look at my last post for the flow numbers . Also dyno numbers have a lot to do with other thing as well as the heads ex. headers, intake, and cam . No we are not WCCH . take a look at the fourm under the shop tours so you can see some of the thing we do. we are one of the biggest offroad engine (lsx) builders in the us. and are expanding . So I hope we can help you out on all your hp needs.

thanks Chris

I'm going to try some ported 241's next year. I'd rather spend $700 than $1200.

From what I hear when it comes to stock casting heads and porting, you get what you pay for.

I know nothing about ^^^^ so I can't comment. However, I know AI is the place to go if you want the power out of them.

Quick data showing the flow results of CBM CNC 241s vs. the AI 219cc 241s incl. the as-cast head flow data. A quick rough comparison can be made by comparing the flow gains of the AI heads per lift range over stock vs. the gains of the CBM heads at the same lift over stock.

Thanks for the info guys! Im just wondering cause Im new to the LS crowd from mustangs. So I was wondering what is what on some of the heads. I always hear that the 243's are the way to go. Out side of buying the 2000 dollar heads on the market! Im not rich , thats why I was wondering what my options might have been.

I appreciate the flow charts!

As far as the mods I am doing. Im installing hooker l/ts, custom x pipe, and spiral flows, new lid, ported throttle body, smooth elbow, and maybe a manifold if I find a decent priced one. But I am wanting to do a ASA cam and a 3200 stall converter.

CBM: quick question. In your flow charts, you have GM 241 CNC listed but no specs on the valves. Is that flow numbers with factory valves, or larger valves?
