Default Poly MM install question

I'm about to install poly motor mounts alng with a set of headers. I have read luna's thread and a couple of other threads that give pretty good installation procedures. I've decided to buy a set of stock 98-02 motor mounts and install the prothane poly motor mounts in the clam shells before I take anything off the car. I'm hoping to reduce some project down time by doing this. After reading all these poly MM install threads it seems that the hardest part would be realigning the holes in the clam shell and the pedestal. I've thought about removing the entire MM pedestal and all on my car and replacing it with the poly MM and pedestal. I'm thinking it might be easier to line up the MM to the engine and k member with pedestal already attached. If anyone has done it this way let me know the pros or cons to doing the install like this. Or if any of you guys have any input I would appreciate it.

Thanks Jason

im doing this right now and its best to just loosen the pedestal not take it out and leave things loose until you get all the bolts started. loading the shells doesnt take long either so i wouldnt worry about getting spares the re installation is the pain. good luck

Waste of good money. They don't take that long to modify.

I also agree with goinbroke's installation comments. I just loosened everything, aligned and installed the bolts, tightened 'em down. It's a pain, but it works that way.

Are you saying you loosened the pedestal bolts also while installing the poly mounts?

And I planed on reselling my existing mounts to recoup the cost of me buying mounts. No need to keep them if I'm done with them. So I really don't see any large money lost on buying the mounts, maybe $5-$10 for shipping.

Yeah i was kinda thinking that but, haven't read of anyone doing it that way. Seems like most people struggle with lining the bolt holes in the clamshell and pedestal. I don't know if it'll help but, I think I'll try reinstalling the mount with pedestal already attached. Thanks for the advice sjsingle1.

I reused (drilled studs out) my stock mounts, just replaced the rubber with prothane components. on the driver side i took the mount completely out, both engine and frame side brackets and the rubber holding thingy (lol sorry don't know what they are called). On the passenger side I just took out the rubber holding part and unbolted but left in the brackets. The last bolt was very difficult to put back in (which ended up being passenger side top, closest to the firewall on the engine side) For a while I thought I might have got it in crooked, but the resistance stayed the same all the way till the bolt was seated, so it was just a tight fit.

I took pedastels and mounts out. Installed mounts to block loosely then put pedastels back in. Wasn't bad at all.

I'm doing this as we speak and is a major PITA removing the pedestal and clam shell, but I'm taking my time doing it. Should I put medium duty locktite (blue) on all the MM bolts whenever I'm ready to torque it all down?

Yes. Loosen them. I don't think you can get them to go without doing that. But with them loose, it's not bad at all.
