Default LS1 Coolant Flow

Hi. I'm new to the LS1 and need to identify the hot side of the radiator for purposes of installing an auxillary fan thermostat. The "hand on the hose" method reveals that the upper hose is the hot one, in keeping with tradition. However, this is not the hose connected to the thermostat. Am I correct that the thermostat is on the return side a la Vortec?

Instead of coolant dicharge temperture control, the LS1 is a suction restricted temp. regulated system.
It is just a different way of doing the same thing, regulating coolant temp.
The only thing that changed is the position of the thermostat.

Thanks for the help, guys. Suction restricted, huh? I had an ex that was like that. I wonder what the relatative advantage/disadvantage of that thermo placement is compared to the traditional outlet temp control. I'm always curious about what motivates engineers to change things. Now if they'd just give me back a damn radiator cap......
