Seeking Advice on what Y-pipe/headers to purchase.
I recently decided i'm going to go ahead and purchase a set of coated Pacesetter longtubes but as far as the Y-pipe goes i'm still undecided. The cheap option would be to go with an Off-Road-Y-pipe but I hear this is illegal. If I wanted a Catted Y-pipe how much more am I likely to spend? The reason I ask is because this IS a Daily Driver and I don't need another obvious excuse to be pulled over.
Also I was told the Y-pipe should be a 3inch, would so would verify that?
I am trying to get a ball park price without installation costs
Thanks for your help!

Unless you are pushing 450+ RWHP, a 2.5 " Y pipe will suffice. The restriction is stuffing all that exhaust into a single 3" pipe.
This is looking to be more expensive than i thought it was going to be.

Pretty fixed on Kooks or ARH's but since my car won't be raced much why do some say go with 1 7/8 instead of 1 3/4. Wouldn't you lose some low end torque and back pressure going with 1 7/8 on a street car that has just a few bolt on mods?
To avoid the potential hassle of the smog gods it's best to always go with cats. Here in CA. I know a few smog shops that could care less if you have headers so long as you have cats and the car blows clean under the sniffer.
Not much to gain going without cats except for the acrid odor / smell from not having them. Todays performance cars all make solid horsepower with them.
Seems like im dishing $900+ for about 20 hp.
Considering my car only has a lid and a cutout, am I even going to feel a difference with this being added?
I'd think you'd gain a good 30rwhp...but no your not going to feel any real difference. Only thing I really felt a difference on was after I did H/C...but that was about 100hp. Your car will definitely sound good though.
Installing headers and exhaust is easy if your the least bit mechanically inclined. You can get the whole thing installed in a day by yourself. I know the TSP headers don't slip on the drivers side to easy though. I think you have to remove something in order for that side to drop in.
Don't forget after headers your going to be running rich, so to maximize the bolt-on you need a tune. It's not absolutely necessary...I went years before I had mine tuned, but just something else to think about.
