Default How much $$$ (LS6)

I never got a chance to get one this season so I am going to grab one soon.

LS6 new-$550/ Used $300?
Coolent lines $60?
Port TB $150?
Tune out EGR code $100?

I also would like to have it painted gloss black because I dont like the stockish look. Do these amounts look about right? I will more than likely have a shop do the work because I do not have the time.

Thx,
Mike

Just wait for a good deal on a used ls6 intake. I got my mine for 300, and forget about the coolant lines, just shave the bottom of the the intake and you'll be good. Not sure on the other prices though..good luck.

you can reuse stock ls1 lines buy shaving the bottom of the ls6 intake, just make sure you use the foam! or else you MIGHT have some drivetrain noises. thats 60$ to save. also, porting tb is around 50 everywhere as i read..and finally, you can paint it yourself. pretty easy to do.

The foam keeps water away from the knock sensor grommets. Doesnt have anything to do with noise

The foam definitely helps cut down noise too, especially with cammed cars with fast closing rates of the valves.

There is no correlation from the under intake foam and noise suppression

There simply isnt enough of it to do anything, wrong locations, isnt sealed, wrong type of foam to dampen vibrations and wouldnt do anything to suppress vibrations through the manifold or valve covers

go ahead and try it. I have tried it using LS6 intake with no foam at all then went back to stock ls1 intake with foams the next day ( i was diagnosing a problem) the noise was TERRIBLE sounded almost like knives scratching against the block. and only can be heard from inside the cabin at idle. if normal LS6 intake would sound like that id never go with it no matter what and that is on a stock internal car.

Thanks for the responses. My friends are telling my to just get a BBK that way I dont have to paint it, port the tb, or tune out the egr. However the weight (24lbs) kind of bothers me.

I would be less worried about the weight and more worried about heat soak issues. Your intake temps will be a good amount higher if you decide to run a aluminum intake.

P.S. I got my Ls6 intake brand new from summit racing for $425, I found that price on some other site and since I already was ordering parts from summit I had them match the price.

Yeah maybe. I never worked with one so I cant comment on the heat soak.

LS1/LS6 intake=10lbs 24-10=14lbs Veeeeery insignificant addition of weight. The heat soak rage(I believe) started with the hot intake heating up the CARB and therefore heating up the fuel bowls(hot fuel). Fuel injection is a different ball game. A chassis dyno most likely could not read the difference from a nylon to aluminum intake as far as the "heat soak" issue goes. BBK is supposedly a little better than LS6.

If I had an ls6 intake already I wouldnt bother but the ls1 intake is holding me back.

Nooooo, maybe a lack of good communication. LS6 is excellent but, if you have to spend the money upwards of a BBK, I'd say do that. Just don't let the "weight" thing or the "heat soak thing" scare you away from the BBK if the purchase price is close.
