Default Mufflers on headers

I have a 99 Ta and am wanting to change my exhaust up for weight reduction, clearance and to get the most out of my car. Right now it has lts 2.5"true duals x pipe ran under the rear end and out the back. I see the bad boys with 3 inch pipe and the mufflers bout a foot past the collector with a turn down. My question is if I do that will it beat me to death inside the car? I can take some annoying drone or what not because really the only time I drive it is when I'm going to the track or our local drag strip us county road 62 lol and another question is if I will pick up any hp or tq or if I will even see a difference on the track? If any of you have any pics that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time for any advice

With 3" pipes coming off the collectors you'll need 30" from the o2 sensors to the exhaust exit to minimize the possibility of the o2's running your engine rich. To cut down on drone don't have the exhaust pointed straight down, have it come out at a 25* angle or less(down to 10* angle minimum). Consider a 3"ID 90* bend after each muffler with a angle cut on the exit to maintain ground clearance.

What mufflers do you have in mind?
I'd look at the Magnaflow#14419 (4" dia, 14" case L), FM DF 10 #8430109 (oval 4"x9.5" case, 6.5" case L), and FM DF 40 race #430408 (oval 4"x8" case, 9" case L).

I am running a single bullet style muffler dumped off a ORY pipe. Gives plenty of room for the 02's to work right.

I had LTs and an ORY and just ran it off the Y and the interior noise was rather loud but even after I ran it out the back it was still pretty loud but I run straight pipes as well. The thing that killed me the most was carbon monoxide lol! I didn't enjoy smelling like exhaust nor having my car smell like it, so I recommend you at least send it passed the axle.

Do you mean 30" from the collector to the muffler or 30" from the collector to the turn down?

I have been considering the same exhaust setup. I think to run mufflers off the headers you should run extensions as far back as possible untill the torque arm mount gets in the way.

I had Moroso Spiral flows directly off 3.5 inch collectors with 90* turndowns and it was the loudest most retarded noise i have ever heard from the car. It was totally unbearable on any drives over 20 minutes and the exhaust smell was horrible. I wouldnt wish this pain on my worst enemies.

I run the same setup, It's easy for any muffler shop to do and its very cost effective and also it cuts the weight of a cat back.

Yeah, I had a 3.5"in/out Spiral Flow off the Y-pipe merger and removed it within a week, it droned really bad from 1100-1500 rpm and was slowed me down compared to the 3"in/out magnaflow it replaced.
