Default $2500 to blow. need some direction

Hey guys im getting a 00 SS SLP auto car next week. Its pretty much all stock right now except for the slp exhaust system. I have around $2500 to spend to get as much power to the ground as possible. Heads, cam, intake, i need you guys that have the experience and know what combos make the most power to point me in the right direction.

Your car is an auto. You should go with a stall converter gears and a H/C pacakge that should bring you right around $2500. Doing h/c on a stock stall and gear car will not be as benefical as the same setup on a stall and bigger gear car.

you could get a set of prc 2.5 5.3 heads for a little over 1000 the came stuff should run you around 500 for the cam springs and pushrods, the stall should run you around 600 and the gears about 400. give or take a few dollars on all the prices

Thats about exactly what i was thinking. Prc 2.5 5.3 heads from texas speed fully assembled with .675 lift springs, a MS4 cam, LS6 intake, 3600 or so stall, 4.10 gears and of course a dyno tune. Any ideas on hp numbers with that setup?

just called texas speed and their saying that i can use the MS4 cam with those heads. Not enough valve to piston clearance. Their pointing me towards the PRC 227 heads which would definetly rise my costs. I'm aiming to get atleast 450hp to the ground, If I gotta come up with some more cash thats not really a problem. Keep those ideas rolling guys.

Where are you gettin the cam package for 500? Pushrods usually run 109-119 valve springs are usually 200-270 and the cams are usualy 380-400

thats all new though

This sounds like the ticket. I was going to suggest heads/cam as everyone else has, and since you're an auto you'll really need a stall & gearing to really reap all the benefits.

I would do headers, lid, 3200 stall converter, rear gears, and a tune. H/C would not be the greatest idea without the supporting mods first.

ok. First off, are you doing the work? If not, you can forget about all that stuff.

If you are doing it yourself, def go with the converter and gears, some longtubes and h/c package.

If your feeling saucy, you can go nitrous. a stock car with a converter and a 125 shot will put you in the 11's.

I am definetly doing all the work myself. I dont pay anybody to do work that I can do myself. I plan on doing heads, cam, intake, stall, gears, and whatever else I might decide to throw in there. I'm just trying to figure out what combos make the best results.

Personally I would start with

-Bolt ons like full exhaust, cold air, pulley, upgrade to ls6 intake or fast setup if you could get a good deal on one on the forum or something I cant justify paying full price for one
-Cam kit
-Converter
-Nitrous Kit
-Tune
-After this $2500 is gone save up another and buy you a 12 Bolt or 9" because youll need it if you plan on running a sticky tire
-Heads are a waste of $ for a stock bottom end motor IMO
-Youd hit 500 on tire with bolt ons, cam, 100 shot pretty easy

You can run a smaller cam instead of the ms4 with the 5.3 heads if I remember correctly there are some people runing the ms3 on these heads. I know I found ot easier for me to set a goal for a et range instead of hp goal. My car put down 398 to the wheels but ran 11.6's consistently at the track.

you need a good stall with a big cam .look at a smaller cam with a TSP head/cam pkg ,and get a stall also.also check out a vengeance racing head/cam kit.

I don't have experience other than some bolt-on stuff but if I were you I would build a strong stalled tranny and rear end and suspension so you'll never have to worry about those things later on when you're getting into the motor. Just an inexperienced opinion lol.
