Muffler finally went bad! Options please So my muffler just went out after 10 years of faithful service. Yes, I was surprised it lasted as long as it did. Here is my dilemma: I have the Flowmaster American Thunder catback exhaust system and the muffler is a special order. Flowmaster will charge me $176 for the muffler and who knows for shipping. The system is 10 years old with no signs of rust. Car has been recently checked for leaks and it is good to go. Should I just buy the muffler or look to upgrade the entire catback system? Thanks for your feedback!
If you're content with it, and the rest of the system is in good condition then i would just get the muffler. If you wanted changed then i'd say look at cutouts and other catbacks, but $200 bucks sounds better than spending $400.
IMO, if you don't want to change the sound or how loud it is then as stated already get the replace from FM, otherwise a Dynomax #17536 would be a good replacement. It's quieter (especially in the car) and it's a lot less restrictive, plus it cost less and it's even Stainless Steel.

No need to change the cat back pipes they are all going to do the same flow.Just throw on the muffler they sound great inside and out you will not be disappointed!!!Just did mine last week off of my Flowmaster cat back.

Verdad Gallardo FYI, ws6man29, that Magnaflow has 2.5" outlets, and moeZ28 the fm80 that comes with the cat-back has 3" outlets. You can't buy it from jegs or summit all the fm80's they sell aren't the same, the largest they have are dual 2.5" outlets; not dual 3" outlets.
99bluz you are correct the Magnaflow has an 2.5 outlet compared to the 3 inch out from Flowmaster.This is a quick fix I did myself at my shop.All you need to do is make a sleeve to go over the 2.5 outlet for the tailpipes and tig it and then just slide over your tailpipes and clamp it down and your good to go.I just did this last week and let me tell you the Magnaflow is a way better sounding product and its stainless not galvanized junk.
