Default CAD Project Ideas

So I'm a student and currently enrolled in a CAD project class. The project has to take the entire semester. I have to design/draw something in a CAD program and I can't think of anything to build. I was thinking a shortened rear end assembly with slicks for my truck. It would include axles, posi, ring/pinion, bearings, seals, housing, cover, ect. It would be a complete assembly.

I want to know if you guys have any good ideas for me other than the rear end. Maybe a redesigned supercharger system. Basically anything that you guys can throw at me would help. Is there anything that you know of that can be improved? Thanks

rear end would be cool. manual transmission would be sweet too or a section view of a piston and valves moving with the crank and cam in a simulation. what CAD software are you using?

CAD software is still up in the air. I could use Solidworks, CATIA, or Inventor. I've used all three but I was thinking about going with Solidworks. I didn't think about a manual tranny. That would be a lot of parts but would be cool when finished.

If you get to pick the software and have to pay, Dassault
was giving free DraftSight which is ACAD compatible and
seems to be fully functional. I've used it for editing and I
am no MCAD pro, but it worked without issue.

I don't see why you have to do the entire top level
assembly of a major chunk. You could as appropriately
do a valve body or whatever, I bet the interest is in
attention to detail and such, more than raw number
of vectors / polygons. Probably better to pick a
project of manageable scope and do it well, than
something over-complex that you run out of time on.

You don't think 16 weeks is enough time to build and assemble a rear end? I'm thinking the tricky part is drafting the ring and pinion.

I think he was saying it would be wiser to do a simpler model and do it very detail oriented instead of a large project that may not get done in time with the detail you want...i think it would be cool though. i like solidworks the best out of them all.
