I know some idiots at the dealership will use it as an excuse.
However, is GM supposed to fix something for free(like replace the MAF sensor), because the owner was stupid and overoiled a filter that they added to the car after it was purchased?
If you have oil all over the MAF, it isn't GM's fault.
That kind of expectation raises the price of cars. Remember, it has to come from somewhere.

Dont understand how using a K&N can result in the transmission not shifting properly..... isnt that about like saying "running drag radials can affect the windshield wipers"....... i mean just totally doesnt make sense to me!!

IMO, there is no excuse to over-oil a K&N - the instructions are pretty straightforward. If you do and the result is a screwed up or dirty MAF sensor then, yes, it shouldn't be covered under warranty. That's not the purpose of the factory warranty. Of course I'm sure there will be any number of poor dealerships that will use this as an excuse, but that just underlines the fact that they are poor dealerships.
I have run K&N filters for over 10 years and never had a related problem. Assuming that GM's warranty is worth the paper its written on (which, of course, really depends on your dealer) and it means a lot to you, then stick with the paper filters. If, on the other hand, you could give a **** about the factory warranty (like many of us) then don't waste your time worrying about it. That's my .02

hmmm, installed a K&N fipk on my truck a few weeks ago and last night my transmission started slipping
cruising home at 70 mph it would try to downshift for about .5 sec and then go back to OD. guess when I take it in, I'll take off the K&N

Could this be retaliation for the class action suit about the
piston slap? GM reads these forums and they know that
there aren't too many LS1 etc cars which do not have been
tweaked...

Oh, and BTW,
Do not sit in the seats or you will void the warranty on the leather
Do not use the brakes from over 30mph or you will void the warranty on the braking system
Do not take corners at a high rate of speed or you will void the suspension warranty
Do not wash the car or you will void the paint warranty
Do not accelerate rapidly from a standstill or you will void the drivetrain warranty
When it comes down to it - I couldn't give a rats *** about GM warranty on any GM car I own - I'll do what I want to MY car and I will fix it if it breaks
