Let me make this clear, and this may have some to do with overall primary size increase and not necessarily all due to the step design, but the powerband shifted drastically. I gained from 5k-up with the straight 1 3/4 and lost a lot below that. At 3k the car felt like a dog. It was such a big difference in torque reduction, my 3200 converter even started stalling less (as stall speed is product of torque input). No joke, the midrange felt weak. The motor did breathe better above 5k, and I know I picked up some ponies there, but I gave up a lot to get it.
