Default head bolt felt loose when torquing to 70*

torqued head bolts to 22 ft/lbs in sequence, then 90* in sequence, then 70* in sequence. on the passenger side head all the head bolts felt tight when final torquing to 70*. then i torqued up the driver side head bolts all of them felt like they should except for the #10 bolt (front middle driver side head bolt). any one every experienced this? what would cause this?

this is an LS2 so all the large head bolts are the same length

I know when I did mine the bolts make some noises that made me nervous as they were very tight, when u torqued it down could u still turn it? If so it might be stripped out...did u make sure to clean threads and blow out with air?

are you reusing your old ones or did you buy new ones? the old ones could be stretched or the theads in the block are stretched. like wildcamaro said you need to tap the threads before you put on new heads.

New bolts, holes were chased several times and holes were dry. Block bolt holes are not striped. The bolt didn't go slack when tightening it just didn't feel as tights the others

OK, I'll bite... I'm old and sometimes not current on slang

What is a DECA stack? And why did you shoot it?

Deca is a steroid that you typically inject... a stack is when you combine multiple steroids at one time.

You might have some coolant in the bolt hole. Compressing coolant/water would prevent you from tightening it all the way.

FWIW- I went with ARP head studs. WELL worth the money.

When putting on heads, we always suggest to our customers to go studs for piece of mind esp for boost or nitrous apps. I seen and heard this story too many times. They're expensive but as stated WELL WORTH IT.

If it is actually loose, something is stripped.

no its not super loose like its broken just feels like that final pass of 70° felt significantly less torque than the rest of the bolts. Is this normal for torque to yeld bolts when using degrees instead of ft lbs?
