Default new a/c, need advice

I just bought a new a/c compressor. Would it be ok to install it(and put on belt) and not hook up the hoses until i get the system charged? seems like it would as long as I don't turn on a/c switch. My engine is going in in a few days, and I don't want to be held up any longer by the a/c.

It should be fine that way as long as the clutch is disengaged. Make sure the ports stay capped to keep contaminants out.

I would put the belt on, simply because it's behind the other belt. One less hassle when it comes time. Even hooking it up totally won't be bad as long as the receiver drier was replaced as well and no refrigeramt is in it, it won't even try to kick on even if the switch is in position

You should be fine. I did the same thing this summer and had to wait a few days (maybe about a week) until I got it charged. Like said earlier, make sure you put a new drier in and hook up all the hoses right away. As long as the system gets closed up soon after unplugging the ports on the compressor and hoses on the drier, you should be fine. Just to be sure the clutch doesn't engage, I would disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor until you know you are going to get it charged. That way you can go ahead and put the belt on, because it is a pain to take off the serpentine engine belt again to get to it.
