Whoever suggested quieter mufflers has a great point. No need to rip the whole system off just to change noise levels. Your sound file sounds fu(king great! But if you drive it daily at 7am that might be an issue.....

If the noise is the main concern, then I'd just change the mufflers and put race magnums in place of the gutted cats. That should help some. I wonder if some Dynomax Ultraflow mufflers would be quieter than what you have, or maybe some Borla XR1s?

Quieter mufflers would solve the 7am issue, but I honestly love pullin' into the local car hangouts and having everyone stop their conversations to hear my car idle by (not that my car's a monster, but it chops hard enough to call attention). That's why I'm leaning towards the dual electric cutout Y setup. Loud for those types of moments, quiet for the 7am startup.

The car's going up on a lift tomorrow, having a Moser 9", heavy duty DS and a SPEC III installed, and now would be a great time to do the exhaust swap, as the Duals may have to come off to access the drivetrain.

Am I still in line to buy your setup if you decide to get rid of it?

I went through the same thing.I loved the sound of the True duels but after months of having it on last year I decided to go back to wanting tailpipes.

I don't regret it one bit,I bought the Hooker Catback and love it!Next best thing to duels IMO.

I also put in 3" Q-tech.Went to the dyno and the number were pretty much the same going through full exhaust on the Hooker catback compared to the duels. My $.02

I'll be deciding in the next few days if they come off.

here's a suggestion, this is what i'm doing in a couple of weeks. i have a 3" true dual setup with bullets dumped at the axle right now. i'm going to replace the dumps with dual 3" cutouts and then run dual 2.5" pipes over the right rear axle into some dynomax ultraflows (they are pretty quiet, a few of my buddies have them). with this setup i can keep my awesome deep rumble at the cruises by just running the exhaust through the 3" part and bullets mufflers. then i can cap it up and be quiet when i want to be. just an idea

Hey all, thanks for the suggestions.

My final decision was to order a pair of 3" Magnaflow 4x9 Ovals to replace the Flowtech Afterburners. This should make the setup about 4 decibels quieter at idle (according to the famous comparison sheet). According to the sheet, the Magnaflows should even flow a tiny bit more to boot.

I'll post next week once the swap is complete.

Good decision, especially since it is your car. Not the neighbors.
