Default New to ls1

I picked up a bone stock 2001 Formula M6 with a factory hurst shifter and 80k miles on it about 3 months ago, and it has become my DD. I'm looking to spend about $700 to get a good power/efficiency gain. I don't want to do anything to drop my gas mileage since I have a 70 round trip to work daily, so a cam or gears would be a no go at this time. I was thinking of a few combos and wanted some input and suggestions. Thanks guys.

1. SLP Loudmouth II and SLP flowpack
2. SLP Loudmouth II and some headers (I heard SLP headers weren't any good)
3. SLP Loudmouth II, SLP lid, good air filter, and a dyno tune

Lid+headers+tune..but with $700 your looking at some budget headers like pacesetters. These are probably goanna put you over your $700 limit after a tune, but its the most for your money.

this is it right here, but yeah...lid+catback=good start. come up with another 3-400$ and you'll have a beast

depends if hes doing the work himself...if not header labor is expensive as fawk

most shops will chagre you around 8 hours on labor so do 8 x labor rates and your looking at that number plus 300 for headers

i would just do the SLP flow pack (only SLP product worth buying) and then a cat back exhasut if you can do it urself. those 2 should put you at 700 area

I'm curious about why you suggested lid/headers/tune over lid/catback/tune. Budget isn't really an issue, but I just didn't want to dump a ton of money into it at one time. If I were to go headers/exhaust/lid/tune all at once, what else would I need as far as piping goes? I also assume I would have to pay someone to install my headers and weld my exhaust if I go that route. Thanks for the input so far guys. This is a nice and helpful forum.

BBk longtubes and y-pipe are hard to beat! $500 for ceramic coated, chrome for $400.

Because headers will net more of a gain than a catback will. Granted it all has to work as a system but if you get a cutout then it doesn't matter if you have the restrictive stock catback. Because an electric cutout is cheaper than any catback.

I agree, you might as well just piece it together and start out with the basics. Catback and lid are what I would do first thing, might be able to squeeze in a set of Pacesetters with what you have left over. But, I'm pretty sure you won't have any left over for a tune with that budget.

with those lil mods a tune is not a must, honest a mail in tune from frost, pcms for less would do you just fine, sure a dyno tune is the best but i would wait to get some mods together

$475 and 355 respectively at WS6 store with free shipping (my brother just ordered his )

$700 will make it hard to squeeze in a tune or headers. Like some of the others have said, the SLP Flowpac kit and a catback exhaust will probably put you around $700. Installing an exhaust is not that bad, its the headers that suck and will run you about $250 or $300 just to get them in.

most shop rates around her (MN) charge 85-100 an hour and this is a 5-8 hour job

Yup. The place I went to ask said "$70 and hour and it will be about a 7-8 hour job". I said **** that, I'll just get my lazy *** in gear and do it myself.

yea if you want some good base line i would go slp flo pack and a catback with a tune.

the tune will prob put you over 700 but its worth it, do you need a tune with those? no
but a tune does wonder for a car...even a stock car if you have a good tuner

I think I'll just spend a little more and get the flowpack or volant, catback, electric cutouts (for fun), and a tune. I found a semi-local shop that specializes in LS motors advertising a dyno tune for $250 last year. I'm sure pricing hasn't changed that much in a few months.

Then later down the road if I want more, I'll go for headers and a 100 shot plate kit and get a touch-up tune at the previously mentioned shop if I like the work they do.
