Default cut my magnaflow tips off

so i have had a magnaflow cat back for a long time now and the crooked *** cannon tips have always bothered me so after i got my cut out and headers and high flow cats on it sounded perfect but the crooked tips were killing it for me. so i took my sawsall to them and the other two hangers hold the muffler up great and i love the no tip look untill i eventually get a CME system from 6LE. it sounds great even better than with the tips a little bit more throatier but it seems like cruising there is a bit of cabin drone when i reach cruising speed and have my foot on the gas. i cut the pipes right where the 2.5 became the big cannon tips. if i had some long turn downs that dump right by the back of the bumper instead of right by the muffler may this help or will they do nothing? im trying to stay with the tipless look. ill try to take a pic and post it up tomorow

I am with you on hating those cannon tips. Magnaflow mufflers are great, but I'd never own their catback because of those.

Yes, if you have some 2.5" pipe welded on with turn downs at the bumper it will help with the drone issue. I think you'll be pleased with your set-up then.

As RevGTO said, it will definately help by directing the exhaust to a new area instead of it resonating under the car like it is. I'm a TA with a bumper made for tips but this spring I am removing them and replacing them w/ 2.5" turndowns since I hate the look of my crooked tips. Even if they weren't crooked I was still planning on eliminating them., and as a bonus, I save a little weight

Sounds like you just need the pipes a little longer.

be careful running the exhaust straight back with no tips or turn-downs - I did and the heat melted my bumper support after maybe three days

My local O'Reilly's sells 3" turn-downs with flared inlets for $12... I would assume you could find 2.5's for a little less

I saw 2.5s at advanced for like 6 each but they aren't stainless I plan to paint them black any away Because I don't want it to be that noticeable from behind by other drivers , would it be ok?

that will alter the sound BIG time...on a louder muffler i had with tips cut like yours now it sounded VERY loud inside and drone like no 2moro...a simple piping to the rear of the car made a day and night difference in the sound. am going with this catback in a week. hope it sounds great!!

Yes the magnaflow sounds amazing. With headers and a cut out its the best of both worlds. Cruising is a subtle but aggressive tone That can be vertually silent when let off the gas and light throttle . But lord take that cut out off and it sounds like a freaking race car lol

Not to hijack but would you mind measuring the cannon tips? I've been looking for some decent straight tips for my Silverado but need 22 inch long ones and they're pricy new. If those are of similar length I might try and nab a used pair on here.

Yes also interested since this is what I'll be doing like a down load shot because I know standing around the car you can't see it I'm more worried about the cars following behind me lol

I had the big tips but flowmaster, it looks odd when there is no valence on the back. I went with mufflex 3.5" with a single hidden tip.

I posted in your other thread

That system has been sold and replaced with a Flowmaster sotl, also with a turn-down. I have dummy tips mounted but without them, you couldnt see the turn-downs from the rear.

This is the only rear pic I have atm. On level ground, the dump is hidden

The Magnaflows tips for F-Bodies are only 12" in. long I believe.

I have the Magnaflow catback on mines with the 3.5 inch cannon tips, love the way it looks. The tips are large but they sort of roll up against the bumper perfectly when it's properly installed, so it looks pretty sick IMO. Are you saying that yours became more and more misaligned as time went on though OP?

Yeah the just got worse maybe the header install messed them up a bit since it might of moved the over axle pipe resulting in the tips to misalighn but yeah they were pretty sweet when I first got them.

But I have a question guys I got pm'd these will slide right over my 2.5 That I have now so I can just clamp them on or will it just butt up to them?

Sorry I know not sponsor I just need a quick reply http://m.summitracing.com/parts/PYE-PVD10
