Default Anyone running a Flowmaster Hushpower muffler?

I've been looking at quieting my car down. It's getting annoying driving around with a single 4" bullet dumped and I'd like to drive the car with my 2 year old daughter in the backseat. I'm looking into getting a 3.5" or 4" Hushpower muffler and mounting it sideways in the rear with a single exit hidden tip. Anyone else out there done this? Sound clips?

I have a 3" 30-series Flowmaster muffler on my bolt-on LT1. I spoke with one of their techs before purchasing and he said its their quietest, most powerful muffler. Sure enough, even with headers and no cats, the interior is quieter than stock with absolutely no drone or resonance whatsoever. Its the same muffler Mufflex uses and theyre available in 3.5" and 4" single in/out.

You have H/C and your stalled. I know with LT's, flowmaster really starts to sound like a truck... Not you hillbilly truck....Sounds just like an F150 with flowmaster, just alittle quieter. Doesn't fit the vehicle sound wise imao.

I'm looking for something quiet yet have a decent sound. I plan on doing a cut out for when i feel like being loud. I think i'm going to try the Hushpower Pro Series...but i'm going to do a test fit first seeing as the case is 6" around, it may look like a huge barrel just hanging from the rear of the car!

I've thought about it, i like the way Magnaflow sounds. I'm having a hard time making a decision on which muffler to go with. I may just buy the single exit 4" Mufflex with a Spintech muffler instead of piecing together everything and not knowing how it'll sound for sure.

A Dynomax Ultra Flo #17557 (4" in/out w/25" case L) would do a really good job toning it down.
FYI, a Spintech isn't going to quiet it down very much at all.

If you need the 3.5 or 4 inch pipes I'd go Mufflex with the Magnaflow muffler. I run a GMMG and could care less about how much power I lose through the 3" I pipe because when the cutouts are open what does it matter? Just my opinion and some food for thought. Good luck.

My guess is the Hushpower will really quiet it down. I see the 3.5" is 6" around... which is definitely your best bet for fitment. It is kind of short at just 20" (16" case) but based on what I've heard in video clips and what not, the Hushpower series definitely tones things down.

I myself have been set on doing a merge into a 4" system and finally did so this spring. I wanted to keep it 4 the whole way, and if they had a Hushpower that was 6" around with a 4" inlet/outlet, I would have gone that route myself. Unfortunately 3.5" is the only one at 6". So what I went with was a 4" MBRP Quiet Tone Diesel (yes that says Diesel, as in truck) muffler. It's 30" in overall length with a 24" case at 6" around. I used this on a setup with 1 7/8" Kooks long tunes into a custom catted Y-Pipe that merges to 4" and then directly into the muffler; finally dumped with a turn down pointed sideways. I'm not a big believer in the theory of "this muffler brand will make your car sound like this or that." The muffler has no idea what motor is in the vehicle. Hell, when I received the receipt for this muffler, it showed it being designed for a Cummins. For someone to believe this "diesel" muffler was going to make my LS1 sound like a Cummins is just crazy.

It's by no means quiet, but I'm amazed that it's actually tolerable. This is with a heads, cam, intake car. I haven't revved it up, or driven it yet, but here is an idle clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD6-p...b2AUAAAAAAAAAA

Based on hearing this again, I'd say it's every bit as tame as a lot of the 3" catbacks that I've heard.

I'll work on getting some videos of revving it up just to see how angry it's going to sound wound up. I'll see about maybe getting cilps of what it sounds like under idle inside the car as well.

Keeping a 4" setup quiet and tolerable for a youngster to ride in the back might be tricky. I have no idea how loud your setup is now; for all I know the clip I just posted may be louder than what you already have. I just thought I'd throw it out there. I imagine a 3.5" hushpower would be every bit as quiet as this setup I've posted.

Good luck on it, and let us know what option you go with, and what it sounds like. I'm very curious to see/hear what you come up with.

Brad

That muffler is loud considering it's size. I ordered the 4" "sinister" the other day. I chose that because it doesn't come with a muffler, just straight 4" setup. This way i can play around with different mufflers. I'm thinking about leaving the 4" bullet in place as well, to add some noise reduction on top of the muffler i choose. I'm probably going to try the Dynatech split flow muffler and a Flowmaster 40 series first. I did however purchase a Hushpower Pro Series the other day to test out as well.

These mufflers will still be loud i'm sure, but actually taking the exhaust all the way out the back of the car will help a lot i think...as dumped exhaust gets annoying after a while. It isn't my daily so my daughter doesn't ride in it that often or hardly at all. I would just like to take it out to pick her up from daycare once in a while or go for a ride on a nice day.

I'd go ahead and leave the bullet muffler in the I-pipe, that's what I did with my 3.5" exhaust. Mines still slightly loud but no where near as loud as it was with just the Borla XR1 dumped. Inside the car it's nice now.

I bought a Stainless Works 21 inch turbo muffler with a single outlet under the bumper, I LOVE it.

Edit

I have headers, ory, stock catback with a 3 inch bullet in the I pipe.

Car sounds really nice.
