You'll be fine. People drive around for awhile before tuning for longtubes. My buddy has had his on like 3 months and drives it around a few times a week with no tune

You might run a little rich until you get tuned, but nothing that's going to hurt the car.

Might hurt your fuel economy though.

I'd personally get a mail order tune.

Correct on the fuel economy. I went a few weeks without a tune after doing full exhaust, and I could tell my mileage was lower, but I don't DD the car, so it wasn't an issue.

Unless something is really wrong with the motor or a part installation, our cars can run bolt-on's untuned, you just won't get the most power you can out of it, or have the most gas mileage possible, etc. So waiting/driving before the tune shouldn't hurt anything.

What shop are you going to for the tune?

Should be alright, will most likely run a little rich and your gas mileage might be in the tank. Other than that it should be good though, not going to hurt anything.

Also, I agree with Bob, if you plan to do a cam or anything else like that anytime soon, I don't see the point in paying for a complete dyno-tune right now.

Fran and the guys at Race Proven Motorsports do good work, haven't heard of Reynolds. I went up to RPM to get a bolt-on tune just because I wanted to get every last pony out of my car for now, and get familiar with where the shop is for future mod work and tuning (and save myself having to remove my PCM and stuff for the mail). However, the other guys are right, if you're only getting tuned for bolt-ons right now, a mail order tune will work just fine too. I usually see Frost and Texas Speed pop up a lot for mail order tunes.

Sent mine to frost and the car felt very smooth compared to no tune.

Agreed with above. I drove mine for almost 5 months untuned. Gas mileage went down considerably, and I was pig-rich. Hella-soot rich. I opted for a frost tune since the cam is in the closet yet to be installed.

Car ran MUCH better with the Frost tune. Gas mileage increased as well.

I've been running untuned for about three and a half years. Car has run rich but fine for the most part. I will be doing a mail order this summer though.

I went ahead and did a frost tune after my header/exhaust install. Gas mileage had gone down a bit before tuning. After getting my ecu back from frost, car felt smoother and gas mileage is definitely better. You probably don't need a tune, but you'll enjoy your bolt ons more with it.

why do longtubes cause the car to run rich? i would think more they would lean it out if anything from the added VE of the engine along with the o2 being further from the combustion chamber.

I drove mine to Texas Speed (hour and a half from me) to get mine tuned, and theres people here who haven't been tuned in years for headers. You'll be alright, it won't hurt anything

I was told from a reputable speed shop and i completely agree with them when they said don't run it hard after doing long tubes because it will be running a little bit LEAN not rich. I have no idea where everyone is getting their logic from by saying it will run rich. You will have improved exhaust flow which is what wake these engines up with the smaller exhaust valves. So take her easy until shes tuned. Part throttle driving shouldnt make much of a difference
