Step 1) Send them back where they came from and put stock coils on the car

Step 2) Have a beer

Step 3) Use the refund check to by something more useful than MSD coils, like a pet rock or left handed socks

With their failure rate they would need to give me 40rwhp to be worth running them on a street car...and to be honest I would be absolutely shocked if I saw real 100% scientific evidence of them getting even 4rwhp.

They do look nice...but I require my car run and preferably be able to jump in and drive it 300miles one way without a part failing.

If you could execute the "scientific" testing...you would be surprised.

I'm interested in scientific test results...

also, a well known sponsor is using those coils: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ker-ready.html

"To be honest I'm embarrassed to admit I almost spent as much time planning the aesthetics of this build as I did the individual components. LS engines in general just never seemed look as good as a well thought out old school SBC/BBC platform that you could easily spend time detailing with good results and I was determined to do something a little different yet have it look as if it could have been a special high performance GM crate engine option (I tend to like understated but highly detailed executions that look very "OEM" if you will)."

"What else.....coils.....yep....they are MSD's, not painted OEM coils.....the size gives them away. I had to do alot of grinding and modifying on the factory coil brackets to get these to fit. I was under the impression these were a bolt on but truthfully I never read the instructions....LOL Anyway, they look great and might potentially be worth a few ponies as well at this level....if I have some time I may back to back them against my stock coils.

-Tony"

Sounds like his decision was based on aesthetics to me, and I don't think anyone will argue they look great. If he ever does some back to back testing I hope the results are posted. But on a big cube stroker, the results may or may not be relevant to a bolt-on to head/cam 346.

But the truth will still be they would be among the worst bang/buck engine mods and the sacrifice is their known QC issue which could leave you in a pickle. But that is personal preference.

Hmmm, aesthetics...

Oh, don't get me wrong, I agree, looks don't make an engine perform... and I'm not disagreeing regarding the quality/failure problems...

[ I've seen the many posts regarding quality problems; I wonder how/why MSD is falling down like that, and I am very curious as to why these coils are suffering a high failure rate ]

I just want to see some objective test results, done by someone who can first troubleshoot to see what is the actual cause of the problem (maybe showing oscilloscope waveforms of the secondary voltages)... i.e. not just "it failed, it's junk" but "it failed in this manner due to this/that" (i.e. technical specifics with measurements/waveforms/etc).

I hope Tony Mamo posts his results with these coils, and also anyone else who has results.

You are quite right Paul Bell, the resell value of those things is virtually nothing!!!

In case, I can generate an address where to send them to be buried...

the coils fired off like they should have for a very short time frame like maybe a couple days and i saw a big difference in performance and efficiency and gas mileage went up a little but then shortly after one coil failed and then another followed. if they worked properly then they would be a great investment but since they have such a high failure rate then yes i would call them crap... at first i was really impressed with them then quickly disappointed...

This is not believed unless you have quick turn around back to back repeatable dyno sheets to prove it.
