crank pulley question

Default crank pulley question
I just put my crank pulley on using the install tool and i was wondering if i still need to use the old bolt and torque it down or can i just go ahead and put the new bolt in?

Don't think it really matters, I reused my stock bolt and everythings fine

I installed it with the installer tool, then used the old bolt to torque it down, then removed it and installed my Arp bolt. Probably not necessary to do all of these steps but I am picky lol.

Thanks but those links didnt really help. i already have the pulley on. I just need to know if i should retorque the old bolt then put the new one in, or can i just go straight to putting the new bolt in?

Ah, I misunderstood the thread, sorry...


The GM Service Manual says to use the old bolt in step 3 of a 4 step process

(after using the "tool" to install the balancer, it says to torque the old bolt to 240 ftlb and then remove the old bolt).

honestly i use the tool to pull the balancer on and then re use the old bolt and impact it on tight i know its not the gm approved way but i have did several and never have a problem

If u want to get technical u can use old bolt to tighten, then remove, then grab a 6in scale, and there's a measurement from crank to inner lip of pulley, it in the chilton book somewhere, forgot what it was

I use a pulley installer then hammer down a new bolt with an impact gun. We've done a bunch of them like this and never had a problem.
