Arrow Why are these two crank flanges different? Cannot get my flywheel to bolt up..

Hello Guys,

A little history first. I am doing an ls1 swap into my rx7. The first engine I had was an ls1 out of an 02 WS6 mated to a t56 from a CTS-V using the dual mass flywheel from the CTS-V.

A week later I threw a rod through the block, got a used crank and flywheel from a forum member and three months later the engine is back together with new internals and ready to be thrown in the car.

I go to put the flywheel on and it would not sit flush with the crank flange at all. It was about 1.5mm too tall so I machined the flywheel to where it would sit flush, then it turns out the bolts barely thread in.

I sat back and looked and realized that my threads are recessed into the crank vs the old crank flange where the threads start immediately. I am confused, searched up and down and cannot find out why these are different.

New flange...

Does it look like the new flange might be sticking out about .375 to .400 farther? If so, it may be an early 6.0 crank. Early 6.0's would mate up to a 4L80e without the gm spacer behind the flexplate because the end of the crank stuck out that much farther.

Weird. Looks like I am going to have to get another flywheel and clutch setup. I wont be able to get the dual-mass flywheel on. I can get the bolts to thread in but not enough to be comfortable.

It would seem simply getting longer flywheel bolts would be the solution but I am loosing my mind trying to find m11 x anything longer than stock.

I was worried this might be a different crank than I was supposed to have and that the balance would not be correct or something nuts.
