98 z28 with truck harness
got a chance to buy a 98 z28 from my buddy. he took out the engine and trans to put in a 55 chevy. he also used the wiring harness and pcm. I have a lq9 out of a 03 escalade and th350 trans to replace it. Can the truck harness and pcm be used as a direct swap? If not can it be modified. If it is too much trouble i will just try to find a car harness.

i would find a car harness since your gonna have to put a car intake on that motor for it to fit in the car.. i believe the truck injectors and car injectors have different plugs.

Been searching. Need a LQ9 swap sticky. So far I need a car harness, flash the truck pcm, ls6 intake, fuel rails, cable throttle body, car water pump with truck pulley installed, and modify the idler pulley. Anything else?
Scenario 2: victor jr intake with carb and msd 6010.
Which would be better/cheaper for a 80% track car?
Also thinking of later down the road adding a truck mani, ebay turbo.

Did he take the body harness aswell or just the engine harness?
You will need a 98 specific harness and pcm unless you plan on buying a 99+ harness + PCM and making it work with the 98 body harness. It's a pain and will cause your fuel level guage not to work unless tuned to read correct.
If you plan on doing some serious boost down the line I suggest going with the 99+ harness conversion for the 3 bar custom OS's.. Otherwise keep it simple stupid and find a 98 engine harness.

ok just to bring this thread back up. Car has sat for a while. Bought it from my buddy as a running car. he decided to give up on the 55. Car is completely stock and running . thinking about buying the denmah special kit from vs racing. Using the gt45 ebay turbo. It seems I can use hp tuners and tune the car for a max of 15psi boost. If i want to go more boost than that I will have to repin the pcm with a 99 or newer. Is it best to buy one with the fuel segment already programmed in? where is a good source for these? I also have a pcm from a 03 escalade. Will it work for the pcm swap or should I just cough up the money for the 99+ pcm?

Glad to see the project is alive, even though your buddy gave up on the 55. Unclear on the current state of your car after 2 years though.
Just to clarify for my work-frazzled brain, you said he gave up on the 55...What are the odds on dropping the LS1 back in the 98? Or sourcing car parts for the 6.0 from the '55? True the 99+ PCM is preferred, but the time/money it might save you in the long run seems well worth it.

I'm in the process of re-wiring the harness from the 2004 escalade lq9 I bought. If you're not used to this sort of thing it can be fairly intense.
So far what I have done is this:
1) Mapped out what wasn't needed in the harness for my build using schematics from both vehicles (2004 escalade and 1996 camaro v6)
2) unpinned those items from the blue and green connectors(a/c stuff, emissions stuff, rear o2 sensors, trans stuff, awd stuff)
3) stripped back harness and removed what was unpinned. also re-routed a couple of grounds
4) wrapped everything back up to keep it organized
I spent a couple of hours each day this week going through the schematics and basically outlining and "drawing a map" so I knew where I wanted to go exactly and how I planned to go there.
Yesterday I did everything above and today I plan on removing the DBW stuff, installing the wiring needed for an IACV and TPS, re-wiring the o2 referencers, and hopefully I'll have time to begin splicing stuff from my V6 harness.
My goal is to make this as plug and play as possible. Then again, my car will be mostly track with the occasional street fun. I will be running a TH400 with RMVB and HP Tuners on a LS1 0411 PCM. Your goals might be different. I have somewhere around 10-12 hours working on this harness so far. As long as you stay organized and patient its not too bad. I'm also 33 years old and have been doing this exact thing since I was 12.
To me, its well worth the money saved to just use a 99+ PCM and use your harness. I've attached a couple of pictures of what I did yesterday just so you'd know what you'd be up against. In one of the pictures you can see the pile of unwanted items that was started on the left side of the picture
