Default should i put a 99 and up pcm in a 98

This prolly isn't the right forum for this but as the title states should I do this? The reason I ask is bc I've heard the 98s are hard to tune and the 99 and ups are much easier and better to work with. How much would it cost me and would it be worth the hassle?

Cant just swap in the PCM, the 98's are a beast of their own. If you want a 99+ PCM your gonna have to do a full harness swap as well.

The pins in the PCMs are different so it can't be done without messing with everything. If you have a good tuner they can get the 98s working fine.

I wasn't sure how much work it would actually be to change it. So it prolly wouldn't be worth doing then

I'm in the southeastern Ohio area. I didn't wanna violate any sponsor rules on here so I didn't know if it was ok to ask of anyone's heard of the two places I'm thinking about using for the tune

I'm getting the car tuned in a couple weeks to fix some shifting issues after a gear install

Exactly, I wouldn't worry about it. As said before, if you have a tuner that knows what they are doing it should be no problem

Its a waste in money unless your building a serious forced induction car. 97/98 PCMs use slower processors and have less memory. Read this http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...s/viewall.html
