Default Installed ORY, exhaust fumes are overwhelming

I know this has been said many times before, and I was prepared for a little bit of a smell after the install, but MY GOD this thing reeks! It's untuned at the moment so I'm hoping a tune will get rid of some of it.

Unfortunantly I didn't buy 02 extentions so we just spliced the wires, is it possible that the splices were no good and it's been in open loop? Is there a way I can find out if it's going into closed loop?

If this smell isn't reduced by at least 50% after a tune and the correct 02 extentions then I'm getting cats. Maybe I'm a ***** but the gas smell is just unbearable.

Thanks for any help.

The tune will help some, should be a noticeable difference with a good tune.

I never thought it was that bad. Unless I am standing outside of the car while it has been running for a while.

with my old setup, lts, y pipe and catback no cats and SD tune the fumes are just rediculous. smell horrible everytime we get out, but im going to assume also because i have no o2s hooked up at all and i believe that would be running in open loop? car has a good tune on it but with the new true duals setup i will be getting a clean up\check af tune done. maby that will help as well

I agree, a tune should tone the smell down some. Do you have LT's OP or are you running stock manifolds?

It's still gonna be somewhat bad. I have long tubes and true duals with out cats and I smell like gasoline every time I get out of the car.

I also have O2 sensors installed (no rear) and am street and dyno tuned.

Why not just switch the pins in the PCM so you can continue to use regular length F-Body O2 sensors, plugged into the rear sensor location?

I agree with above though, after you get a tune, be it mail order or otherwise, the smell will be knocked down a lot.

That's what I planned on doing, but these cheapo eBay headers had the 02 bungs on the wrong side of the collectors, and the rear 02s wouldn't reach. So we had to do a quick splice job.

Once it's tuned it shouldn't be bad at all, especially with a stock cam.
IMO, unless you did a perfect job splicing in the extensions be prepared to buy new (longer) O2 senors. I'd get it scanned to make sure the O2's are working correctly before you get it tuned.

For some reason I didn't have the gas smell with my car very much before my tune, but everyone says that a good tuner can stop the smell. Idk Wth they can do to change it but Xxxmotorsports did eliminate all fuel smell and I have emission free Lts and a ory . Hope you can get your problem solved.

Uncatted cars will stink. Wonder how we all survived before the early 70's. Tune should help, but it will not go completely away.

I honestly don't think mines that awful and I've never had someone tell me that I smelled like gas. A cop mentioned that my car had a weird smell to it once but I told him it just wasn't running right. I guess it just depends on the person.

Normally the more valve overlap you cam has (all else being equal) the more you'll smell it.
