Question Can I loop my power steering pump back to itself?

I'm building a 56 f100 with an 5.3 out of an 06 silverado. The truck currently has a manual steering box that I will eventually be converting to power steering. My question is ..... Can I connect a line from the outlet of the pump to the return of the pump, fill it up with fluid, and run it? I want to keep the pump on the motor for now. I would buy a delete kit from dirty dingo, but I see no reason to since it will only be for a couple thousand miles at most. Thanks.

I don't think you can plumb the high pressure side right back into the low pressure return. You need to have some sort of restriction there (aka. the steering rack)

What about running a shorter belt and bypassing it?

you know, after researching more online, some ppl do loop their lines, but I'm not sure if I know anyone here that does. Give it a try maybe?

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking..... give it a try and if I make a mess or my pump burns up then I know it doesn't work, right. I've learned a lot of valuable lessons by just saying f*&k it, here goes nothing.... If anyone else knows for sure, let me know. Otherwise I'll let you guys know the outcome when I fire it up in a few weeks. Thanks, Keane

Just remove the pump for now and re route the belt. Have you priced pumps lately for these cars?
