I ran 7.5s@93+ with stock 98 heads with an Ms4 cam only.... Very "thrown together" setup for what it could have been.

If I was on a budget but thought I needed heads.. I would get a set of 317s and mill them as much as I could and still clear my cam selection (which should be no bigger than a high 22X type cam on a budget setup IMO). They would flow equal to an ls6 and make more low-mid range power because of the milling... All while still being cheaper than a stock 243 head.

Forgot about those, so take my $850 and take $200 off assuming you would need a valve job. Without a valve job and just milling and springs you are looking at $500 tops

You can get 317 heads all day long for roughly 150$... Milling on the high side 200$... Can't beat that.

2win...your getting confused. When black98 speaks of "truck" 243's, he is talking about 317's or 799's. They have the same ports as 243's, but larger chambers on the 317's and solid valves. This makes them quite a bit cheaper than actual 243's.

Matter of fact, I just seen a classified ad on here for a set of 317's for 150+shipping.

No.. I was talking about 243s that came on trucks. A lot of guys think they are mediocre heads and dont think much of them so they list them for cheap.

My hand ported/milled 317s took my 3500# car with a budget setup (226 cam/ls6 intake/etc) to 7.2@95mph barely spinning. Car had a nitrous tune on it and was in 2200+DA. I have zero doubt with those heads still on the car I could have got it to a 6.XX@97mph at the same weight in some good air with a few changes.

The heads can perform, especially for the money invested.

If I ever have a budget build, I will go with them.

I mistyped I meant $650. But read on. 317s go for around $100. Milling is about $60 for a set of heads, I have no clue who is quoting you $200. And a good spring kit is $250ish. So $410 give or take, springs may be a little pricier and Ive seen 317s go for $50 bucks before

243 are 243... 799 are 799... 317 are 317... Yes they maybe alike but we are talking about 243 refurbished... He was talking about 243 for $300... Now it's 317 for $150... We are talking about 2 different things NOW... A Camaro is a Camaro... It's not a TransAm... Idc if they Are made by same company and have same coomponents... Get my drift?

you can do your own valve seat leak test to check for bad valve seats.place the port facing up and add some solvent.if the fluid level goes down quick and you see fluid leaking from the valve seat ,then get a valve job.your current stock heads will get 7s in the 1/8,just get a cam that best matches your combo.look at thunder racing or Texas Speed for a good price on cam pkg.

Yea, I get your drift...you've been "drifting" around the wrong machine shops, and doing more posting than reading on here.

Even if you had a clue, I'd still guess you'd argue with your mother at her own funeral.

Full basic bolt ons
Lt,ls6 intake, 3in exh., c/o,ory,hi flow exhaust, udp, etc. With a off the shelf cam matched with springs and pushrods. And tune.
No real reason to pull heads at this modest goal.
