Default Replace Flowmaster muffler?

Hey guys,

Running TSP 1 7/8" long tubes to their off-road y-pipe. Flowmaster catback with a 3" QTP cutout welded into the intermediate pipe. I'm ready to replace the Flowmaster muffler however I'd like to avoid buying a brand new catback + cutout etc.

I've been interested in the Hooker and Magnaflow mufflers. Anyone simply swapped one of them in place of the Flowmaster muffler? Looks like the sizing is a bit different and the connections (the Hooker has a 3-bolt flange on the inlet) are different too. Anyone have an idea of how to make it work in a manner cheaper than simply buying the whole new catback?

bump for this... I have been thinking of what to do with my flowmaster catback exhaust. I just bought TSP 1 7/8 with ORY. All I hear on here is that flowmaster is junk.

IMO, your best option is a Dynomax Ultra Flo #17536, it has 3" outlets like the FM muffler and is very close in size to the FM80 used in the cat-back. It won't take much to make it work you'll just have to re-adjust the muffler and tail pipes. Sound is similar to the magnaflow, and flows just as good.
BTW, Magnaflow doesn't offer dual 3" exits, only 2.5" exits.

Thanks for the info 99Bluz28. Got your PM....this is definitely an option.

Ideally I'd prefer to go with the Hooker aerochamber however I'm not sure how to work around the 3-bolt flange issue. I guess a good muffler shop could cut the flange off, use a coupler to connect the intermediate pipe to the muffler and then weld it all together....just curious to see if anyone has gone this route.

I swapped my Chokemaster for a Magnaflow. World of difference. Magnaflow gets my vote.

Did you just swap the mufflers or did you go with a whole new catback? I'd love to find a muffler that is (somewhat) interchangeable so I don't have to bear the expense of a new catback + cutout + additional install cost etc.

Swapping in a $100-$200 muffler would be the preferred fix. Right now I see that the Dynomax muffler is an option and would be an improvement, just waiting to see if anyone has pulled this off with the Hooker Aerochamber (really like the sound).

At first I did just the muffler, Magnaflow part # 12267. Then after I bought my DMH cut out and new TSP SS ORY, I picked up the entire catback. But just swapping out the muffler made a noticeable difference in sound and power.

Is the current flowmaster the stock configuration as in single in dual out? If so just buy the $80 Hooker Aerochamber muffler & have the exhaust shop swap them out. It'll be easy for them & you'll love the sound.

Yes, it's the true Flowmaster American Thunder catback that replaced the stock catback. Single inlet and dual outlet. The issue is the 3-bolt flange hookup on the Hooker Aerochamber inlet. The Flowmaster intermediate pipe connects with the muffler via a coupler and a clamp -- not a 3-bolt flange.

Did you just cut the flange off and weld it together?

The muffler shop can just weld a 3 bolt flange onto your I pipe......

Sounds simple enough to me...

Thanks.
