Difference between TR5 and TR55 plugs?
Difference between TR5 and TR55 plugs? I've searched the forums about which spark plug works better with the LS1 and there seems to be a consensus on the TR55s. Although I looked up the application in the NGK webpage and it lists the TR5, at least for the 2000 Trans Am.
The product description seems to be very similar too, including the heat range. So why does everybody prefer the TR55s?

TR 55 is a Copper plug if I remember correctly and the LS1 seems to like the Copper plugs better then Platinuim.. That might be what a TR5 is .. Same heat range and what not just Platinuim..
Not really, TR55 and TR5s each have copper, platinum and iridium versions on the same model. The TR55 iridiums are TR55IX or something like that.
I have TR55 Iridiums at .060 gap and I get some part throttle knock. But I'm not sure if it's because of the plugs or not.

Then is a TR5 a new designation for them?? I run the TR6's which are a cooler plug in my T/A and the TR 55's in the Vette and the G8.. Never seen a TR5 @ autozone that pulls up in my cars plug inventory..
On the NGK page, the TR55 are listed for the LT1 and the 3.8 camaro/firebirds and the TR5s for the LS1 models. The dimensions and heat range between the two are the same the only difference is the Removable Terminal Nut.

The only difference in a TR5 and TR55 is the gap they come set at. TR5's come at about .035" and TR55's at .055" if I recall correctly.
