Default plugs and wires for stock 98 trans am full bolt on car with tune

Trying to see what plugs and wires everyone recommends for 98 trans am with ls6 intake, 85 mm maf, FTP 85 mm lid, 80mm tb,1 3/4 headers with x-pipe and true duals, and racetronics fuel pump. What plug gap do you recommend? Also would I be better off to go back to the stock TB or keep the 80 mm?

There is no plug wire made anywhere that will give you any kind of performance increase at ALL.......over stock wires. Or $36.00 Advance Auto Parts plug wires. Plug wires are almost all HYPE....

Until you start making over 650 RWHP or have a boosted set-up.......nothing will change performance.

Plugs.......NGK TR55 or TR5.....you must check their gaps, make sure they are .050. This is also the best performance you'll find from a spark plug at your power level.....none of the bullshit exotic super-duper special spark plugs are going to do a damn thing. Don't waste your money.

TB....bigger the better.

^^^ not true... And not true... Vengeance wires have shown smooth spark in the RPM range. Sum say MSD wires arnt that good. Tho I've never had problems. They also run well on my Chevelle

And bigger is not better... Test prove that 85mm TB and ported stocker show same results. Why go from a 85mm TB to a 78mm opening on your intake... Port you stocker if you have LS1/6 intake

Im sorry but Ill have to disagree big time on this. Granatelli did back to back tests on a stock C6Z, they changed wires on the dyno and picked up a nice amount. Lees ohms is always a good thing. Hell I had stock wires on my GTO when I bought it, I swapped MSDs on and noticed an immediate difference

And OP stick with a TR55 gapped at .040, that is what GM calls for. I run a TR6 with the out of box gap at .037 but I am a little more modified than you

Bigger is better, OP keep the 80mm, nothing wrong with it

NGK TR55 plugs and MSD 8.5mm wires. I've had the wires on and off a few times and they have been great.

Wires are wires I have to agree, period. Spend till your hearts content, how much money do you have. lol I use iridium spark plugs because they will last longer and plugs suck to change. Again spend and work till your hearts content. GM uses Platinum plugs.

I posted a thread about this not too long ago and many agreed granatelli were the top of the line. I'm still deciding bc I've yet to find anyone that's actually used the vengeance wires

IMO plug wires aren't created equal. Just as an example I first purchased a set of O"reilly's "premium" plug wires when I bought my car. They were lacking in the positive click department. Maybe its just me, but I like a good connection. When they did give a good click on the coil they really didn't fit tight. I've changed prolly 30 or more different sets of plug wires throughout my life. Seems like everytime I buy a vehicle it needs a tuneup. Plus I always buy vehicles that are high mileage cause I am all about saving money. I have seen a lot of cheap bargain bin wires break, miss, etc... In a few years the MSD wires may do the same. IDK yet, but i've had crap luck with cheap wires. Plus the MSD's are red and just look good when ya pop the hood!

I would not consider every plug wire "bargain Bin", I usually shop at Autozone and have for years and have never had a problem with wires. Money does not grow on trees I just think it's money better spent somewhere else.

While I don't think they add any power, I will attest that switching to Granatelli wires made my car run better than any other wire set I've ever used. And they're very well made.

Step up to the Granatelli wires. And agreed on the TR55 plugs.
