Default Changing exhaust

I currently have TSP 1-7/8" primary headers that go into a 3" merge with a collection spike that funnels to the TSP SS ORY that then goes to the TSP rumbler cat back

I really like the exhaust but am thinking that I should have gone duals from the start. My thinking was that the birds look odd without something sticking out the recesses of the rear and I did not want to drop the mad cash for kooks true duals

For whatever reason it never occurred to me, to simply hand the tips I want in the recesses and dump the exhaust like other LS1 owners did.

So I am wondering, other than the lack of rasp... is there any gain moving to TSP True Duals over the ORY -> Rumbler I have now?

Some people might think the duals will sound better but thats all personal opinion. Will you gain much power with your setup? Probably not anything you would actually feel.

We usually see pretty decent gains running the duals over the y setup, just depending on what other modifications you have. Unfortunately GM didnt make enough room for lots of exhaust options, so the y is the most popular setup...

Ground clearance could also be an issue. My ory setup hangs really low.

^^^ it's probably the way you mount it. Some have good ground clearance some dnt. If you have SLP Tuned length headers you wnt have good ground clearance.

^^^ ya no dis. It's just a common prob. I threw in the exhaust on my 01 quick and I had to go back and redo because the clearance. How did your pacesetter go in? Ez pz? Or pain? I'm thinkn hookers or PS for my 00.. I would go TSP but i dnt need SS LTs. Coated is fine. I never see rain

I am not dis-satisfied with the way the rumbler catback sounds. I can live with the rasp but if I can make it go away, I would rather do that. I really don't expect much of a power increase with this type of a swap but more of an aesthetic sound improvement. I prefer the deeper rumble of old school muscled cars like I had in my 69 Charger.

I remember seeing how you had that setup in an exhaust tip thread we had going a few months back in the Firebird forum. The more I thought about it, the more I think you had the right of it by rigging the tips like you did. I remember you mentioning it was just some 8" L brackets, spare exhaust tubing, and some U clamps. I could probably figure it out but if you have a step by step procedure, that would make life easier

Right now the only mods I have is the exhaust and removal of the EGR/AIR systems. However in the next 2 months I will be installing the GMPP "HOT" Cam that I recently picked up on the cheap along with a lid. After that it will be either an LS6 or FAST 92 intake. And that would be it for power adders until I do some work on beefing up the suspension. But once that is done I plan on going to a larger cam like the MS3 or 4 along with PRC heads, either the CNC stage 2.5 5.3L or Stage 3 LS6. But that will be a long ways down the road most likely.

The current setup with the ORY and catback is already pretty low. I can't really see the duals being that much of a difference.

i switched from pace setter y-pipe and magnaflow cat back to tsp duals, i think its 100% worth it. It sounds much better than any y-pipe Ive heard, and I felt a power increase, and a managed to get awesome ground clearnce for duals. They're tucked up as high if not higher than my y-pipe was

Exactly the same I was going to say. The damned rasp is GONE - Completely! It truly is the best sound on an FBody. I've only heard it on computer speakers; but after doing my own and hearing it, it's the best sound I've ever heard.

I also felt a good SOTP, and I spent a LOT of time getting my ground clearence perfect. My duals are tucked higher than my MagnaMouth ever dreamed of being.

Peak gains will be minimal, duals gain under the curve, where you can feel it

This is mainly a street car that will very rarely, if ever see track time. So as I understand it, isn't under the curve where I would want to focus my attention for power? Not to mention it will just plain sound better

My friend has duals with magnaflow mufflers. He loves it, I dont. So its pointless to ask on here what sounds better.

I was basing that on clips I've heard of the TSP duals.

I would try to hear them in person first. The online clips dont really do them any justice.

This coming from the guy running LT's, ORY, and a LM1

Haven't got sick of it yet I see? I will say, I stand corrected.
