Default ls1 intake manifold

i'd just like to know what makes them so bad. the most i read is that the ls6 manifolds flow alot better but are the ls1's that bad. how do they hold up to boost?

They just don't flow as well as the LS6. The ls1 also has the hole in top that the EGR pipe goes in to, that will need to be plugged and could cause a boost leak. Also the more restrictive intake will make a less efficient set up.

You could use a ls1 intake and it's not going to brake or crack any easier than the LS6 intake would, the ls6 is just a more free flowing unit.

Also pick your manifold based on your rpm range, too many people run an LS6 on a combo what could gain massively with a Vic jr

I had a noticeable difference with my ls6 swap. Buuuuut my tuner did do a little tweaking when he was in there turning off my EGR so I'm sure that contributed. I'm bolting on a fast 102/102 with heads and cam now. We might just do a dyno comparison of the ls6/fast to see if I wasted 1700$ for a few extra ponies.

LS6 is just a superior intake. I know ALOT of people that run the LS6 for boost too. However, FAST intakes, and others aren't really especially important with boost because that air is getting forced in there. However, some will argue this.

The biggest shortfall on the LS1 & the LS6 is, due to the compact design, lack of plenum volume due to the small space under the runners. The truck or hot rod purposed fast lsxrt is the least compromised functionwise with it's long, straighter tapered runners & large plenum volume. But it's big ,ugly, & expensive.
If you're trying to get the turbo project up & running on a tight budget,I,d say go with the ls1 to start, I picked up one for$25 to start chopping up to make my twin plenum cross ram intake. Intake is easy enough to swap later, right? Blk98vet mentioned the vicjr, many find this best to make more upper end power with a turbo (& hold the boost).

Intake flow on a boosted engine is Just as important if on more important than on an n/a engine.

ok so i was given an ls1 intake mani and i dont think i'm gonna do the turbo for at least another year. it should be good enough to hit 370whp with the following:
lt headers
comp cams xr277hr 224/228 cam
ls? lifters
ls6 valvesprings
ls6 oil pump (tsp)

basically just a stock rebuild with long tubes, x pipe exhaust and cam. i got the cam for a nitrous setup i had laying around.

It will work, but it will limit your top end. If that cam makes power much above 6k, it's going to kill it.

Ls1 intake manifold will be fine with the turbo. If you dont want a egr hole to plug get one from a vette.

+1. No doubt the LS6 is the better intake, but a LS1 intake works fine. Just depends on how much power you are looking to make. I am running a LS1 intake on a 6.0L with unported 317s, TU1 cam, T6 S480 in a 3,050# '92 notch. With 13.5psi the car went 149mph, so use your favorite formula to figure out the HP. I tried going up with the boost and the engine was not responsive to it, so that might be the limit of the intake. Not truly scientific, but I believe if you are looking to make 700rwhp or less, the LS1 intake will work if that is all you have or do not want to spend the big $$ folks are asking for the LS6.

Getting ready to buy a Pro-Flo to replace the LS1, so anyone needs one, PM me.

I made around 440whp with my LS1 intake with basically a max hp heads/cam setup on a stock bottom end. Just never got to changing the intake but it was costing me a solid 50-70whp. Car would have made over 500whp with a super victor.

With a turbo, it is just fine up to about 700 crank hp
