Default Need new plug wires

So in the midst of a cam swap, one of the stock GM plug connectors broke off in the boot.

Going to buy some new wires and I was wondering if the Grantelli wires (these specifically http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...s-solid-core-/ ) would be worth more than double a stock replacement set. From my searching there is potential for slightly improved idle/throttle response and they may be better contructed (better heat resistance), but I'm more interested in how long these "should" last compared to a new stock set?

I see they have a lifetime warranty so I'd imagine they should be decent quality? However if the stock ones can handle the job I'll just go that route. Car has an ls1 with full bolt ons and a cam if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help,

Eric

nothing wrong with the oem wires.
many people dont like the MSD from what i have read (and experienced) because of the way they click on. The oem have a very positive click click and its good. The MSD is a little iffy.

Im running MSDs on both cars now, and have been running them for a while with no issues whatsoever. Think I paid about 70 for them WITH plugs.

Good grief, that's a LOT of money for a pair of plug wires. No way they are that amazing to justify the price, I would save some money and do some MSD's or OEM's

vengeance wires hands down, about $10 +/- more than msd and they provide a consistent spark. If you have TSP headers get the msd's, they have bendable boots.

gran wires are top of the line, but are totally unnecessary for the power your making.

Also consider the gm hp wires

Granatelli was having a deal for LS1 tech guys he would do like 115 shipped ,I have the Granatelli, and regardless of all these "cry babies" saying "oh they are too expensive" or "get the cheaper ones there is no performace gain" for the simple fact I burned through a set of Taylors ,and some other wires i bought a Orieleys on my old z28, and i mean within a few months, **** buying cheap anymore, they can be a pain in the *** to change..

I went with the Granatelli "not for 184 bucks, but for the 115 deal directly from Granatelli which is a phone call deal only" and honestly, they feel way stronger then stock as far as the build, the factory heat shields fit perfect ,and they really seemed to help some of my low rpm idle issues i was having... I replaced my stockers that had 30k miles on them with granatellis. Now did it make my car faster??? Can't really say but for quality, they can't be beat. They shut down the Granatelli thread for some stupid reason, I don't know if its because he's not a sponser or what, but sponsers sell his products so It was pretty silly imho to stop the PRODUCTIVE discussion on Granatelli wires....especially since it was in that thread he offered the deal if you called him....stand up company imo..

so for 184 clams, well....that's a little much since I got mine brand new for 115 shipped... and the ones I bought at orielys cost me 35, then 55 for the other set...85 dollars for crap wires, 115 for wires that I have never once had an issue with...it was worth the extra few $$ to me...

now there are going to be tons of naysayers, some people have had issues with the wires, and never acted on the warranty, simply came on he and griped, but if you want my opinon, its a very solid product... but at 180 bucks, its simply not worth it to some when they can buy wires for 40 bucks and if they burn up thats fine they can replace them 5 more times before its as much as 180 bucks..... me, I like doing things once....

**EDIT** those are the premium Granatelli wires for cars with headers since they have built in heat shields, the standards Granatelli "Red wires" can reuse FACTORY heat shields...

http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...ts-plug-wires/ you probably only need these and some factory heat shields ,should be fine...

With 1 7/8ths headers bend-able boots are mandatory. If it doesn't have them I cannot even consider buying. I have been running MSDs for years and have probably pulled them on/off 20+ times and they have been great.

Even with 1 3/4 you often need the flexibility to get good clearance. When I installed my LT's, I was going to re-use my stockers but they just wouldn't clear. MSD's solved the problem ... great clearance and on/off no problem.

I wont lie though, after 20+ removals there isn't the confidence inspiring positive clicks anymore. I was able to re-tweak the connector in the boot with some pliers and restore most if not all the wires to a more solid click feeling when installing them.

I ordered the red wire GM set. The ones we took off were black and I believe they were stock. I have hooker 1 3/4 headers and to my knowledge there havent been any fitment or heat related issues on mine, just the broken connector on one of them. Will report back on fitment and any issues I encounter with these. Thanks again for all the input everyone.

Eric
