Hooker vs Magnaflow

There's not going to be an appreciable difference between the two in power output. They are also both quite quiet on cars with stock manifolds and cats.
Magnaflow advantage: stainless. Magnaflow disadvantage: those horrible cannon tips.
I personally prefer the Hooker, but others feel differently. Both have had some quality control/fitment issues in recent years.

I don't get why people hate the cannon tips so much. Yeah I'd prefer the quad tips but I still think the cannons looks pretty sweet. Also I'm going to be buying used so I don't have an option. How much do those quad tips cost?

Both are way too quiet unless you want that.
I had the Hooker Maxflow muffler with LTs and an ORY and it was a little louder than stock. Great for inspection time, but boring to drive with. Mangaflow is even quieter.

The hooker cb I'm considering has the aerochamber muffler so it's supposed to be louder than the maxflow. If I could hear these in person it would be an easy choice. Videos don't cut it. I've been told by some that both are way too quiet and others tell me that people exagerate like crazy and both are noticably louder than stock but not super loud, which is what I want. So it just makes it more confusing. Worried about throwing out a few hundred bucks and not being happy with the result.

Ive had both. Better sound would go to Hooker. Best flow would go to magnaflow.
I gained 14rwhp by going thru the cutout with the Hooker CB.
However, I would highly reccomend the new design quad tip Magnaflow CB. It sounds much better than the original magnaflow and flows really good too.

I agree with the guys who give the Aerochamber the nod for better sound over Magnaflow. As for the Maxflow, I have a 3" single exit on both my Formulas. On the LT/ORY car, the db's are moderate in normal driving and loud at WOT. On the manifolds/cats car, it is really quiet. Any of these is systems is going to be quiet on stock manifolds and cats.

He said he went with a 40 series muffler, not the power robbing 80 series muffler made for our cars.
For the OP, another vote for hooker (aerochamber) catback here, cheap, sounds good, and effective. Most of the magnaflow Fbodies Ive heard sound like old farm trucks, and have the ugly cannon truck tips to go with the sound too...
The quad tip version definitely looks better, but $700+ for a catback, no thanks...
