Default VSS on 4.8L with AX15 Manual Tran

I recently put a 4.8L out of a 2006 Chevy express van in my Jeep with a manual transmission. I installed a reluctor ring off the transfer case yoke to so the VSS could be read by the ECU. The programming is off and the ECU reads 100 MPH, for instance, when I am going 60. Does this matter?

Does the computer need to know my true speed if I have a manual transmission?

I have heard different stories that it is not needed or it is or as long as it sees some signal it will run fine.

Any thoughts would be a big help because to re-flash the computer gets expensive and do not want to do it if it is not needed.
