Default Cai or ram air

I just purchased a 2000 z28 with 84000 miles it's pretty much stock except for an aftermarket ss hood. The scoop on the hood is not cut out but I was thinking of making it functional. Sorry if this has been gone over didn't see it tho. Anyways I wasnt sure if that was the right way to go or if cai or even just the lid would be a better option I've seen on here guys posting about possibility of hydro lock with a ram air set up and I will be driving in the rain I'm sure. Any help is greatly appreciated

Just a quality aftermarket lid and a ram air scoop that gets cool air from under the car. Seal the rest.

SLP lid is good. Do a search on the SSRA ram air. It's a kit that scoops up air from right under the front bumper directly into your air lid. It's been proven to work. There are several other brands out there that all work and look similar.

I wouldnt do a cai on a dd. On a dd I would just do a lid.
If its not a dd or your willing to take the chance of hydrolocking then do a lid and ssra.

As for sealing your ram air hood to your air box...I wouldnt do that. Theres a few reasons why...If you look under your hood you can see the air duct does a 360 degree turn. What good is that? Another reason is how much heat gets absorbed into the hood. Your hood sits in the sun all the time. Do you think the air going through the hood will be hotter or colder vs under the car? Last reason is all that water sitting on the hood. If it is sealed up well enough I think its a bigger chance for hydrolock vs a cai.

My experience is...
Iv had 3 ls1 cars and 2 of them had ssra. They were not dd but I did get caught in some massive rain storms but never sucked up any water. Does that mean it will not happen? Nope, but I dont puposely take my car out in the rain. Thats what a dd is for.

My gains on a bolt on only ssra...
https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-raci...oof-works.html

...just my experiences and opinion/way of thinking...your choice

Good info thanks not a dd but will probably take it on a few trips on occasion so have to consider hydro lock to some extent and didn't think about the hood absorbing heat ( especially black) or the 180 bend rules that out

OK so not a dd. I vote for a lid and ssra.
As for what lid...any lid will do BUT if you plan on ever upgrading your intake setup to compliment other bigger mods then maybe a bigger ftp.
If it were my car I would get a used lid for now and upgrade later (if wanted to). But not a big deal though just a thought.

I would definitely do a lid and possibly one of the ram air mods if you feel that it's needed, can't really beat that setup for the money. I wasn't really a believer until I broke down and bought the SLP lid, you definitely can feel a noticeable difference. A good mod for $90 if you ask me.

The only way to ever suck up enough water to hydro lock the engine with the SSRA is if you are trying to use the damn car as a boat. Don't be a dumb *** and try to drive through a lake and you'll be fine.

I went with a hood with a functional scoop that led directly into my lid..but if you're looking to keep your hood though, definately go with the SSRA+lid
