Default 99 Trans am air intake setup

Allright Im pretty new to the F body scene and just bught my first one, I picked up a 99 true Firehawk slp #545. Im wondering what is best setup for maximized bolt on power. Should I go with a ws6 lower air intake with an slp lid, should I forgo the lower ws6 intake and go with lower ram intake and lid, and is the Volant air intakes(new box) better than this whole setup. Any input would be nice Im on a budget build and from what Ive found on here the Volant and various setups are not widely discussed unless I just really suck at using the search function.

and if anyone has a lid, coupler and filter they want to sell please send me a pm, ive owned the car for about a week and finally got the interior where it needs to be for my liking, and am now ready to get started on my motor, but have to keep it mild since the wonderful city destroyed our only drag strip, and the street racing scene really isnt my cup of tea as the wife really wont let me leave the house at 11pm to go race, so any advice or experience with setups would be more than welcome

Did your Firehawk come with the Blackwing lid? If so, I would leave that on there and just do one of the Ram air mods. If not, just get the lid of your choice. Volant looks cool but honestly, they all generally work basically the same.

yea unfortunately this hawk still has the stock trans am air intake on it for some reason even though the rpo codes read ws6. in all honesty the guy that I bought it from was somewhat of an idiot and not a gear head at all, the only reason Im considering the volant is due to lid+filter + ws6 lower air intake is looking to run about 250 range as where volant whole box system is running about 200. But I cannot find much on Volant reviews

A WS6 lower air box is a waste if you are going with a bottom breathing kit (SSRA, FTRA, SLP...) as you block off the front opening anyways. A WS6 lower air box would beneficial if you want to cut your hood and seal the air box the the front nostrils (ram air), but then you would not want the FRA mod or any bottom breathing kit. Or go with a volant and seal it to the hood like mentioned above if you like how they look.

- Note that your car would never have came with the blackwing as they only came on '02 Hawks/ SS's with the 345hp package.

Volant and K&N suck in hot underhood air. Since you don't have a WS6 system go with a cold air kit like the SSRA or ftra.
