Default 01-02 manifolds

Alright so I am putting a 5.3 into my 89 Formula, its going to have a mild cam and either lightly ported 5.3 heads or 241s ported and milled..

My problem is for a 3rd gen I can't fit longtubes or mid length headers at all, only options are stock manifolds, shortys or very expensive swap headers that I can't afford right now.

At first I was planning too use the 01-02 manifolds because they came with the car, but after looking at them I found the passenger collector is only a 2 1/4 in outlet but the drivers side is 2 1/2.

The plan was too run 2 1/2 duel exhaust all the way out back for a nice free flowing exhaust too help make up for the lack of longtubes, but the 2 1/4 in outlet on the passenger side has me wondering if I should search for some cheap used shorty headers or maybe I can port the outlet too 2 1/2?

What should I do?

You can find cheap shorties but the ones I got off
eBay really sucked - the stainless was not stainless,
and the flange-collector was craptastic, a 1/2" lip
there to make turbulence.

It took me 6 months of waiting to find a pair of used
JBA shorties at a price I liked.

Over the short distance you are not going to see the
2-1/4 - 2-1/2" difference. Just step it to 2-1/2 at the
other side of the flange and call it good.

If you get the plumbing set up with the stock logs then
shorties will swap in clean later, when you find them.

How do you know headers wont fit? Didnt they make 3rd gen SBC headers?

SBC headers which comprise 95% of the 3rd gen aftermarket will not fit LSx engines. Exhaust options are Fbody manifolds, Hawks longtubes or BRP headers. The latter two are very expensive

To the OP, your 5.3 will never notice the slight difference in port size from one bank to the other. Run it and enjoy the new drivetrain
