Default Add "cats" to an off-road y-pipe

Greetings all.

Currently running Texas Speed 1 7/8" stainless headers and their 3" off-road y-pipe. The emissions inspection is becoming a bit problematic so I'm exploring my alternatives. Interestingly enough, I found an all-flow "non cat" that could be welded into the y-pipe at a non-sponsors site and I believe this may solve my problem.

Pardon my ignorance, however could you simply purchase these, cut the off-road y-pipe and weld them into place? The ORY has a 3" outside diameter and the "non cat" has the same outside diameter so I'm guessing it would take some form of coupler or band clamp to work. Anyone try somethiing like this or have any feedback about whether or not it would be pretty simple for an exhaust shop to complete?

Thanks.

Why don't you just get a high flow cat from someplace like Random Technologies and quit worrying about it?

That's certainly an option however there's little fun in just giving up. Would like to explore this however if it isn't viable then I'll probably just buy a catted y from Texas Speed. I'm just very happy with the sound right now and am hesitant to go changing things.

I did something similar in my true dual install. I have two sets of pipes, one catted for the city and one OR for the track. Its a 15 minute job changing between both setups.

.

Added these band clamp flanges on the header collectors and the pipes.

if your state does not do the sniffer test, then welding non cats in will work. Several of my friends have done this.

I have a single 'Allflow' cat under the passenger hump of my '93 - passed visual inspection twice already

Awesome! Just what I was hoping to hear. Think I'm going to order these and give them a shot.

I am glad I don't have to worry about for now.
