Default Taking Header Problem poll

I am about to order either Kooks or QTP headers and catted Y-pipe for my 2002 Firehawk. I am having a hard time finding a mechanic who 1: has installed headers in an LS1 and 2: has the ability to retune the car after the install.
I was wondering how What type of Header you installed, and whether or not you had a problem with the way there car ran after a header install
Thanks

If You Can Change A Tire You Can Change Your Headers You Owe To Your Self. You Wont Need A Tune Save Your Money And Get Tuned When You Get A Cam

I installed my Kooks with a buddy and it took us 4-5 hours including plugs, wires and an oil change. The headers were pretty easy to install, easier than you would think. They just slip right in without having to jack up the motor or notch the k-member. My car needed a while to adapt to the headers but then again I did not reset the PCM right after the install. No need for a tune.

Installing headers yourself really isn't very difficult. Heck, I did it myself with no technical help, just an extra set of hands. It can be time comsuming, especially if it's your first time with this sort of thing, do NOT expect to take 4-5 hours. Give yourself two days where the car can be non functional and you can work most of the time (a weekend off works well) so you can take your time, do it right, and allow plenty of time for the stupid little things that always seem to pop up and slow you down. Read all manner of directions/install docs/etc before starting to the point that you think you can do it from memory (but keep good install docs handy anyway). These can be found online through searches/links. It is worth the typical $300-$350 you save by not paying somebody to do it IMO.

2nd question: You should not need to have it tuned. It will probably run rich, but not by too much and it's not worth the price to most people to tune after headers. Most people tune after cam or heads.

Oh yeah almost forgot......I installed my Jet-Hot LT's last summer and had no real problems. They fit very well when I removed what was recommended before trying to get them to slide in and had the front of the car nice and HIGH.

I installed Hookers by myself and it was harder to get the old crap off than to install the headers. Easy to do and I did not tune after.

Like Brak Attack, I installed the Kooks stainless headers with their catted-y, and had no problems whatsoever. They fit perfectly...just make sure you have an extra set of hands, and you'll be set for sure. I had never done anything like it before, and it took me and another clueless buddy about 6 hours to get the headers in.

FYI, headers at WOT make you run lean; but its the extra richness at part-throttle that causes the "perception" of it running rich.

I have installed 4 sets of Pacesetters, 2 sets of Kooks, 1 set of the new Eldebrock headers and the Eldebrocks were by far the hardest, The Kooks & Pc's were installed in less than 4hrs including the Y pipe.
