Hypertech 180 or 160 stat
stock 'stat; for some reason they rate the 'stats well
below their stable operating temp (probably like cams
where duration is measured at a near-uselessly-low
opening, pointless except for everybody agrees on it).
The 160 with surplus radiator airflow makes a 177F
(+/-2F) coolant temp on my car. Marginally more
efficient to stay hot, no notable gain in my case from
going cooler. It should be in the "don't bother" category
although -maybe- a higher compression or boosted
vehicle might see more benefit than I do.
And of course paying a Hypertech price for a stock
temperature thermostat falls not in the "don't bother",
but under "how's that crack habit working out for you?"
about the thermostat pivot point. Stock settings
are 224ish (dumb, and dumber with a cold 'stat
because now your tune has to fit over a 50F
ECT range instead of "just" 30).
The gauge is just there to make you think you've
got one.
