Default How do you fill cooling system?

Filling the radiator is not a problem...How do you get it in the block with the T-stat at the lower radiator hose connection?

Take the top radiator hose off of the radiator and fill the motor up through the hose.

Pull a HEATER hose and fill it through it. That's the best way to fill behind the thermostat, into the block.

its a funnel that fit tight inside the rad cap hole, so you can fill it taller then the top of the rad. and have extra fluid in there
Ive never had a problem with useing the Tsat will a hole. and just taking your hand and pumping the upper hose, and the lower every no and then, will filling the rad and keeping ti full. You can hear it psuhing thu the hose and int the motor and the heads, and fell it fill up as you pump it. After the motor dosnt take any more, and it soild filled, start it and keep pumping it and keeping it filled up. Dont let it run for 10+ mins but Once the Tstat opens you see it drop in the rad fill that up. Then I loosen one of the 10mm bolts on the front coolent Xover on the heads, and pick it up out of the Oring seal. there will be a little air in there. The the coolant will "hit" and leak alittle. Just push it back down in the Oring, depending on your intake for tight it is the the inlet neck and how much you bent the Xover. Most of the time you dont have to remove the bolt or just leav the bolt in and tighten it back up quick. there you have no air in the highest point of the motor, the front corners of the heads.

put a rag on the WP, end of the head to clean it up easier when it drips

Will it work on my old school SBC radiator? I'm looking at this, but it says for threaded rad cap. Mine is like a 3/4 turn..

It helps if you bleed air out at the steam crossover.

All useless and cumbersome suggestions. I've filled mine a million times and it was always a headache (trapped air) until I made one small adjustment. I've done quite a few fills with completely bone dry blocks and radiators. Here's the easiest way: Connect everything as you would when the engine is in running condition. Remove the small line for the front vent valves on the heads just in front of the intake to the driver's side. Stock it goes to the TB or whatever, just get it off near the engine. Fill through the radiator like normal and all your air comes out through the vent. When it start running a line of coolant out of the crossover line, seal it up and top off the radiator and DONE. This method works perfect every time. Run the heater at your convenience and that air will work itself out and you can top the radiator off sometime after that though it won't take much. Fill the overflow container about halfway full.
