Default What is this bracket?

The engine is a 6.0L LQ4 from a 3/4tonne Chevy truck.

I am not 100%, but I think it for a crash situation. Soposed to be a "shield" for the end of a fuel rail. That heavy guage bracket would hit the back of the engine bay and prevent damage to the fuel rail in a crash. I am probably thinking of something else and will look like a fool shortly. I have the same piece sitting in a coffee can wait to go to the scrap yard.

Take it off. I beleive it is a bracket used at the assembly plant when putting the engine onto the frame. As far as I know it was only on the 98+ 3/4 ton trucks so it can't be for safety.

looked it up in a GM book and found that what I thought was correct. Its called a "fuel rail stop bracket" Saftey feature. The bracket that 01cherryreds10 is thinking of has a hole through it to hang during assembly.

Notice:
• Remove the fuel rail assembly carefully in order to prevent damage to the injector electrical connector terminals and the injector spray tips. Support the fuel rail after the fuel rail is removed in order to avoid damaging the fuel rail components.
• Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering open pipes and passages.

Important

The intake manifold, throttle body, fuel injection rail and fuel injectors may be removed as an assembly. If not servicing the individual components, remove the intake manifold as a complete assembly.

1. Remove the fuel rail stop bracket and bolt, if required.
2. Remove the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator for the L59 engine.
