True Duals Under Axle
I'm going to get a 2.5 true dual system here in the next couple weeks. I'm contemplating on running them over the axle or under. From what I understand, running them over the axle is a lot more expensive. But the streets where I live are REALLY bumpy so I'm nervous about running them under the axle. I've read a couple comments saying that when the suspension unloads with them under the axle, it will hit and probably tear the exhaust up. However, I haven't seen anything where that actually happened. So I'm just looking for some opinions on how you guys would run them. I've got the money to do either right now but I'm always looking to save a dollar when I can.

Under the axle won't give you any less ground clearance than the front of the car will have. The downfall in my opinion to under the axle is you can't jack the car up by the body. You can put some 3 bolt flanges just before the rearend so you can remove them but imo its to much to have to deal with having to jack the car up twice. Another thing I've found is most exhaust shops don't want to mess with anything very difficult so if they're willing to do over the axle thats the route I would go but I wouldn't be surprised if most shops you go to turn you down. Good Luck.

Yea, the shops not willing to go the mile will suck hard. Too bad your not up here, there is a great shop in town here that can do just about anything you can come up with!

well there is a exhaust shop around here that does a bunch of custom exhaust for oval track and drag cars. they told me over the phone that if it can be done, they shouldn't have a problem doing it. They're pretty popular around here though so I'm preparing to lose my arm and leg.

mine is ran under axle, as was my previous car. I still jack it up and put some strain on the pipes if need be, (obviously not the smartest thing) and of course it needs unbolted to go on a lift. i forgot to mention that to the mechanic shop and it pulled a bolt through the floor pan on the exhaust hanger, but no damage to the exhaust.
There is no problems with ground clearance because of the fact they were ran under axle. I did the true duals myself in a single car garage and by the time i got back to the axle i just wanted to finish it, and over the axle was obviously going to be much more of a pain. No pictures, sorry

I have them ran under the axle. No clearence issues at all. The lowest part of the.whole setup is the header collector. I personally love the look of under the axle, when you/they see them...well they know your running a top notch exhaust.

Go under. As stated several times in many threads if done right the lowest part of the entire system will be either the x, cats or header collector. I had 3" under the axle and had better clearance than most y pipe setups do.

Thats your opinion man....It has nothing to do with cheap, 350$ over the axle or 150 under was my exact quote. After spending 1000$+ for everthing already..Nothing to do with money...not for me anyway. I remember seeing classic muscle cars (when I was younger) with duals ran under and personally have always liked the look, and yes, An obvious tell of a great exhaust. Because it is a great exhaust no matter if it's ran under or not, but when they are ran under, well you KNOW their running duals. If I had a camaro, I'd go over or dump it. But you really can't even tell on a TA unless you really look. Cheap...not at all. It's all personal preference. **** your mullet
