Default Why you should change your engine mounts

Pulling the engine from my car and found this. From a stock 2002 camaro. Poor thing has been a B4C (cop car) all its life. I already had the poly mounts to replace these but didn't think they would be this bad.

Well those did not lead a simple life did they! hahahaha You may want to consider solid before you install those. The reading Im seeing here Im leaning toward solid with a factory trans mount

When mine were pulled and the shell halves separated you're supposed to have to work the factory rubber mount out w scraper or torch.....not mine then just fell out lol

Yea, once I drilled the rivets out they fall apart. I just have to clean the inside of the clam sheel a little. Only 113K miles, the Maryland police must have rode this thing hard! No solid mounts needed for this. I run solid mounts with a stock trans mount on my other car (72 nova) and it works well though.

Just too harsh. The vibration you will get with a poly mount on the trans, along with engine mounts, is pretty bad I've read a few times here from guys that have done it

Solid mounts here, with a Prothane trans mount. Not bad at all to me!

I'd go with the Prothane over the Energy Suspension transmission mount. It's simply pluig and play. All the issues I've ever read about were with the ES, b/c of the preload plate and some grinding to a few humps or something... Just not worth the hassle. The prothane goes right in like stock.

see i had poly mounts on my cobalt for engine and trans and yeah i had alot of vibrations but they evened out after a few months of driving they got "worked in" i didnt mind it at all, made me more "in tune" with the car IMO. i dont think id go full solid front mounts but definitely poly and i think the trans as well.

thanks for the info

gotta question for you guys. I'm installing some LT's soon and I was wondering if changing the motor mounts during the LT install was worth the extra work when my stock mounts are fine?

I went with energy suspension poly's, with a new rubber trans mount and its smooth.... A buddy of mine has solid mounts and a stock trans mount and it shakes the dash.

EVERY set of LS1 mounts I've touched have looked similar, including the mounts from my 2000 Trans Am, which were replaced back in 2007 with only 32K miles.

I think so. My exhaust fit was tighter to the floor pan with no banging against the k member. It will have to be done eventually, so there is no better time to do them than while the exhaust is out.

I'm 100% happy with my Prothane poly motor mounts and matching Prothane poly trans mount. If it is stiffer than stock, I wouldn't know. Feels jut fine, and not 1 rattle. Just dont be an idiot when you install the tranny mount. People seem to install the tranny mount and put pressure on it when seating the cross brace. Just make sure the crossbrace easily bolts up to the tranny and you will be taken care of.

Worked for me and my friends.

My 130k mile ones were pretty bad too. The poly ones made a huge difference, stopped the exhaust hitting all over the place from the engine torqueing too.
