Default Longtube Header Install ???

I will be doing a H/C/I and Header install on my 02 T/A here shortly. How High must the Car be off the ground to install the headers? Can the headers be installed from the Top with the heads off? The headers are ARH longtubes if that helps...

6 ft off the ground, using a lift. Doesn't get better or easier than installing them that way

As far as personal experience (mine where TSP longtubes) it had to be at least 2 feet off the ground. obv a lift would help out a bunch but jack stands will work. I'm almost positive that there isnt a brand of header for our cars that can fit through from the top (don't quote me on it we do have some crafty *** people on this site) once its up in the air they go in quit easily.

At LEAST two feet. Higher is def. Better. All I had to remove on my hooker install was the oil filter on driver side. And yes they go from bottom.

BBK drivers side slid right in from the top, the pass side had to go in from the bottom... Get it as high as you can with your jack, you should be fine with that.

The higher the better. I didnt have access to a lift when i did mine, but i used a tractor jack/jackstands to get it off the ground as high as I could.

My BBKs were cake...... Had the car on rhino ramps and that was all. Getting the stock y pipe off was the most difficult part of the install

If you are doing a head/cam package, why not just drop the headers in from the top. When I did my original H/C packaged from TPIS way back in 2001, I was able to drop the long tube headers in from the top, no problem.

When I bought my Grotyohann long tubes back in 2001, I set the car up to pass an emission test; therefore, the cam and headers were compliant. MY headers had the air fittings for the air pump and cats. When I changed the cam and heads in 2004 to off-road set-up, non emissions, I had the air pump block-off plate on the header since the air pump was removed but the fitting broke off eventually from the vibration. After the tube broke, I had to pull the passenger header off to get it fixed. I have a really old VERY heavy floor jack that was my step-dads, it's at least a 3.5 ton, probably more...but I had to jack it up as high as it would go; therefore, I had the car probably 2.5 ft in the air and I got the header out no problem, but all headers are not the same, some have longer collectors then others.

I just did arh's on my car a few weeks ago to replace my bbks. Both sets went in easy. I would say at least 18" off of the ground though. My 1-7/8 arh's didnt need anything removed I and the heat shields already off and they slid right in with a push. I imagine with a head swap the drivers side could be done from the top with ease. But on the pass side arh has a different design and I dont think the bottom rube will allow it to slide passed the bellhousing. I could be wrong though so try it, if not it will go in from the bottom ok.

Kooks on the passengers side slid right in, had a little trouble on the drivers side but eventually went right in. Jacked the car up 24 inches. Have fun, headers really open the car up!

I put on a set of headers and the drivers side wen right in no problem however we had to take the motor mount off the passenger side (which involves removing the ac unit) and jack the motor up 2 inches as well as cutting the EGR tube off. i do not know the brand i believe they were 1 3/4 ebay headers.
