Default Need to tame my exhaust!!!!

I have a 2002 Firehawk: 404 LS2 with twin billet gt35's. I am running a Burkhart Chasis torque arm. I'm running 4" aluminum exhaust with a Vibrant aluminum muffler. The Vibrant muffler has a 10" case. I am really space limited due to the torque arm.

The rear section of my exhaust with the muffler is all v-band, so it isn't really hard to pull off. I'm thinking about building a quieter street exhaust with stainless. The Vibrant muffler had a really bad drone at around 2600. In thinking about using a 4" Borla XR1 multicore. It has a case length of 16". Which is really as long as I can fit.

My question is: Will the Borla xr1 multicore be more quiet than the Vibrant muffler? I like the sound like it is, I just can't stand the drone. The exhaust is turned down under the car, but I really don't have anywhere to go with it

Thanks for any help!!!

I wouldn't bother, a 5" diameter case is the largest I'd recommend in the I-pipe area, otherwise you will have clearance issues likely with the drive shaft. Now if you're willing to modify the floor to fit a oval muffler under the car then you'll get a decent reduction in the exhaust loudness. I'd suggests just running the exhaust out back an installing a Magnaflow #14153 in the stock location

here is a couple of pics under the car. It would be nice to run the exhaust out the back, but I really have too much stuff in the way Im just thinking that if the xr1 multicore would be moderatly quieter than the aluminum Vibtant bullet muffler then it would atleast make the drone bearable

Okay, those photos help a lot.
I bet you have room for a 5x8 oval muffler in that location, if you can get a 14" Long muffler case to work in that location then try a magnaflow#14153(5"x8"x14") or possibly a #12770(7"dia. x 14"). You might want to also possibly consider some oval tubing in the mix.

Hmmmm I will check out those mufflers. Both would fit for sure. I had just heard good things about the Multicore XR1's.

The only Borla that will fit is the # 40947 XR-1 Sportsman, and it's not a multi-core. FYI, the shortest multicore has a 16" case length.

The muffler I have now is 6.25 diameter. I think we can fit the 16" core. Borla 400374

I have a aluminum fuel tank and Weldon pump on the rear where the exhaust would go, so I can't run it over the axle. Don't know if getting it another 2 feet past the crossmber would help

Part of the reason the drone is bad is the exhaust length and that you have it dumped almost right under the center of the car. If you can get it to exit back further and at less of a downward angle that should help a noticeable amount just by itself.
So are you going to make a new rear section to allow for a 6" longer borla multi-core muffler case? IMO, it looks like you should have enough room for a 4" pipe in the factory I-pipe location.
There's also the Dynatech Vortex cones, that are suppose to quiet it down a little if mounted at or close to the header collectors.

At that point you could consider a boom tube. That will at least get you the volume and give you the clearance.

think im gonna try a 3.5'' xr1 multicore in the location that the vibrant is in now. If im not satisfied with that then I will have 3.5'' exhaust to get to the back instead of 4''.

We can make that fit over the crossmember one way or the other....lol

At that point there is the space between the front and back seat to fit another smaller muffler if I have to.

thanks for the replies!!

Why not try fitting a Hushpower?
