Default Tach question

Just bought a 2000 silverado 5.3. Why would my tach be reading exactly 1k rpm higher than it actually is? And it doesnt fidget Exactly 1k rpm higher all the time

Early 2000's gm trucks and SUV's are well known for the force motors that drive the gauges going bad. Someone probably changed yours and didn't follow the calibration instructions close enough.
