Go back to Mufflex and get the spintech for your system. I'm quite happy with the tone, volume, and lack of interior drone with mine :-)

I have the 3.5" Mufflex (well the Hawks version technically) and I have a 3.5" Borla XR-1 oval back there. I really like the way it sounds. I don't have a cam though. I'm a stalled a4 so you could probably control the volume a little better with your m6 for creeping through the neighborhood early/late. But overall I really like it. I'm in Buffalo so if you are interested in hearing it in person, let me know and we could try to meet up somewhere.

I'll say Hooker Areochamber. I know alot of guys have complained about them rusting but I have had mine on my car since a couple months after buying it back in 05' & it is still working just fine. The sound has actually improved over the years as well. It flows great & sounds great. I am thinking about buying a extra just incase they ever stop selling them so I'll have a direct replacement. I have no desire for a different exhaust, ever.

I havent updated any because i actually had my posi unit break in the rear. 4 bolts came loose that hold the top of the carrier on and this caused some teeth to break off in the differential. I bought a used auburn and thru it in.

I am actually surprised the number of you that like the borla xr1, which is something I never considered.

Im running the same exhaust, I got my hands on a kooks 3.5'' muffler (like on their 5th gen kits) and used that. Def more aggressive than the magnaflow and not too loud when just cruising.

SWEET98SS, take a look also at the Dynatech Split-Flow #776-14352, or the QTP #12350 which look identical to the Dynatech except it's 304SS.
INO, they seem a little different then borla or magnaflow.

So I got my rear issues worked out and again in the market for a muffler. Now I am thinking something quiet, then go the E cutout route again.

How much quiter would a flowmaster 40 or 44 be than my magnaflow?

They're not going to be quieter.
If you want quieter muffler look at the Magnaflow #12909, or put your FM 30 back on it.

I actually sold the FM30. The only reason I want quiter is I bought a camp and they dont want loud cars up there. Also, it would be better in my neighborhood. Any other suggestions? I thought for sure the FM40 would be quiter than what I have, you can see straight thru my muffler.

Yeah I know, I have the same Magnaflow muffler. You could always put a Magnaflow # 59930 spun catalytic converter right off the y-pipe exit.

I actually have cats on the car, they dont do anything though, you can see straight thru them. I wonder what a bullet would sound like welded in?

I just had my Borla XR1(#40086) removed from my I-pipe because it was just to close to my new 3.5" drive shaft. It's now only slightly louder at idle, so I really don't think an even smaller bullet muffler would help you at all.

The Magnaflow #12909 I suggested has a 22" case length, so it's 8" longer than you current muffler and should get you the results you're wanting.

Do you know for sure if your muffler has any packing inside it..?
I can't check mine since my pipe are welded on.
The reason I'm asking this is after some searching I noticed that the Magnaflow race series mufflers don't list that a stainless mesh wrap and acoustical fiber fill is wraped around it's perforated stainless steel core like their regular Performance Mufflers do.
